Hey John, check out this beautiful nebula! It's called the "Eye of God".
Oh, and could a dust cloud be strong enough to stop the earth?

That nebula is pretty spectacular, Darko - very beautiful.
A vast, dense dust cloud would slow the Earth through the gravitational effect that enormous 'clumps' of dust would have (remember: planets and stars are created in dust clouds). Also, the space occupied by the dust cloud would not be a vacuum as it would comprise of a huge amount of dust spread over an area of many light years and thus friction will act upon the Earth causing it to slow. I doubt that it would slow the Earth sufficiently to actually stop it, but there would be a reasonable deceleration in the Earth's velocity.
BLS: Dunno, but I can make it move for you, honey

Just adjust many huge fucking RR-turbines (like in aerolplanes) into the earth at the equator. And start them. That should slow down the earth.
I'd put myself on a bike in front of a huge ramp. So i'll get this E.T.-feeling, when he's leaving the earth in the last scene of the movie.

oh yea i have seen the gothic fun thread now thats humer!!
taken from soem ozzfest review or somethig
"Moving on. Despite their giant spikey boots and black and white face paint, Norwegian band Dimmu Borgir didn't come off haunting so much as they did hilarious (as in tee-hee-hee!) One got the sense Tuesday that these boys wanted oh so badly to be taken seriously, and yet their dirgelike anthems pregnant with melodramatic church organ-style keyboards inspired little more than snickers and snoozes."
haha

BLS-There are probably worse goth pics than that top ten list, but notice that they were all famous bands.
Darko-They tested me for ADHD, but i was afraid they'd find marijuana. I didn't do for like 3 weeks before the blood test, only because i couldn't afford it, which turned out to be lucky i got a 9L for drugs and alcohol, and that's supposed to be really good.

I've been pretty tired. I haven't felt like getting on that much, lately. I rented Rainbow Six 3 for PS2 last week, and that preoccupied my time for a little bit.
And last week I went to 2 "parties" with my friends, so that wasted my nights, for the most part. I dunno. Where have I been? Thats a good damn question.

I've been doing a little calculation as to how much energy it would require to actually halt the Earth's rotation:
First we've got to start off with the rotational energy that the Earth possesses as it spins on its axis. To calculate this we need to know: a) The Earth's angular velocity and b) Moment of inertia created by this angular velocity. No simple "movement in a straight-line" physics here folks!
Angular velocity is defined as:
w = 2(pi)/T
where T is the period of the spinning object, ie the time it takes the Earth to rotate on it's axis once (a day) - we need this to be in seconds. So, the number of seconds in a day, T = 60x60x24 = 86'400s
Thus, w = 2(pi)/86'400 = 0.0000727 radians per second.
Radians is just another form of angular measurement - a 'friendlier' alternative to degrees if you will (in more complex forms of mathematics degrees are never used).
We have our angular velocity of 0.0000727 rad/s (incidentally this works out to be around about 278 metres per second or 1000.8 km/h) so know let's calculate the moment of inertia. Inertia is basically an object's resistance to movement and is defined as:
I = (2Mr^2)/5
where M = the mass of the Earth and r = the radius of the Earth. Now, in kilograms, the Earth has M = 6x10^24 kg of mass. This notation is said "6 by 10 to the power of 24" and means that 24 zeros follow after the 6. The Earth's radius is r = 6400 km = 6'400'000 m. So putting these figures into the equation we have:
I = (2 x 6x10^24 x 6'400'000^2)/5 = 9.8x10^37 kg m^2
Now that we have our angular velocity and our moment of inertia, we can get into the meaty calculation, that of the rotational kinetic energy that the Earth possesses. "Kinetic energy" just means that it is the energy of movement. This is defined as:
KE = (Iw^2)/2
where I = the moment of inertia and w = angular velocity, both of which we have already worked out.
So, KE = (9.8x10^37 x 0.0000727^2)/2 = 2.6x10^29 Joules of energy.
Now we need a comparison. Since somebody mentioned blowing the Earth up, the energy from an atomic bomb might be a good starting point. To work this out we need a bit of Einstein, E = mc^2 to be precise (E = energy, m = mass and c = the speed of light). This equation just means that matter is equivalent to energy.
OK, onto the calculation. Imagine we have 10 kg of uranium (an average amount for a nuclear weapon) and we put it into an atomic bomb. The speed of light is 300'000 km per second which equates to 3x10^8 m/s. So we have the energy produced by a medium sized nuclear weapon as:
E = 10 x 3x10^8 = 3x10^9 Joules
If we divide the Earth's rotational energy by the energy produced by an atomic bomb, we get the number of atmoic bombs that the Earth's rotational energy is equivalent to, call this N.
So, N = 2.6x10^29/3x10^9 = 8.7x10^19
So the Earth has the equivalent rotational energy of roughly 90 billion billion atomic bombs. That's a lot of energy!
To put the energy of an atomic bomb into comparison, we need to calculate the energy taken by a person to do an everyday task. Let's say, for arguments sake, running up a flight of stairs. For this we need gravitational potential energy, defined by:
PE = mgh
where m = mass of the person (not weight), g = the acceleration due to gravity (= 9.8 m/s^2) and h = height moved.
Thus, if an average sized person (70kg) was to run up a flight of stairs (3m high), he/she would expend:
PE = 70 x 9.8 x 3 = 2058 Joules of energy.
So the energy of an atomic bomb is roughly the equivalent to the energy expenditure of 1.5 million people running up the stairs. So theoretically, it would take the energy of 135 million billion billion people to stop the Earth rotating. Not even China has that many people!
I found this to be a very interesting calculation, but I'm sure many of you just think it's boring!

I just got wondering how much energy it would take to stop the Earth rotating and when I thought about it, I had all the tools with which to calculate it at my disposal. It only took about 10 minutes on paper, and most of that was due to punching all the numbers into the calculator!
I suppose that the last paragraph sums the calculation up in real terms so, if the maths is too heavy for anyone, just read that part.

Oh just my evil plan to stop the Earth rotating. I'm going to time it right so that Norway will never get any sunlight anymore. That way, all the grim and necro black metal bands will remain frost-bitten forever, mwuahahahaha!

To feltch, is the act of sucking recently spurted cum out of another guy's poo-pipe. I should imagine it to be not the most pleasant of experiences.

First we've got to start off with the rotational energy that the Earth possesses as it spins on its axis. To calculate this we need to know: a) The Earth's angular velocity and b) Moment of inertia created by this angular velocity. No simple "movement in a straight-line" physics here folks!
Angular velocity is defined as:
w = 2(pi)/T
where T is the period of the spinning object, ie the time it takes the Earth to rotate on it's axis once (a day) - we need this to be in seconds.
I = (2Mr^2)/5
where M = the mass of the Earth and r = the radius of the Earth.
I = (2 x 6x10^24 x 6'400'000^2)/5 = 9.8x10^37 kg m^2
Now that we have our angular velocity and our moment of inertia, we can get into the meaty calculation, that of the rotational kinetic energy that the Earth possesses. "Kinetic energy" just means that it is the energy of movement. This is defined as:
KE = (Iw^2)/2
where I = the moment of inertia and w = angular velocity, both of which we have already worked out.
E = 10 x 3x10^8 = 3x10^9 Joules
PE = mgh
where m = mass of the person (not weight), g = the acceleration due to gravity (= 9.8 m/s^2) and h = height moved.
Thus, if an average sized person (70kg) was to run up a flight of stairs (3m high), he/she would expend:

So the energy of an atomic bomb is roughly the equivalent to the energy expenditure of 1.5 million people running up the stairs. So theoretically, it would take the energy of 135 million billion billion people to stop the Earth rotating. Not even China has that many people!

Wise man. You get a lot more of the motives and reasons behind the theories rather than a process that consists entirely of:
1. Equation
2. Derivation
3. Proof
4. Repeat
Plus you get to do experiments!

I can't stand proofs! They where the most frusterating thing in Geometry.
Trans: I've heard that is due to the perminatly grey tinted sky caused by the Industrial Revolution which is inturn relevant to Northern Norway's high suicide rate. Is this true?

Want to hear a clever logical poem?
"I love you.
Therefor I am a lover.
And the world loves a lover.
And if you mean the world to me..
Consiquently, you love me."
Talk about clever! I laughed when I read it..forgot who wrote it though.

The test are fairly easy, but if you dont feel like sitting through it all just goto gamefaqs.com
The sniper training fuckign SUCKS, its such bs but onces its all over with your aim is greatly improved and its fun being a sniper
Special Forces/Ops (forget the exact name) training is fucking rediculous, make sure you have atleast and hr and half to do it, theirs no saving and its fairly long and extremely difficult. But its worth it, its lets you have all the cool guns and cool maps.

those where some intersting calculations there john, but i recon we could do it, all we need is the combination of all the nuclear weapons in the world, then the serf's in china
im shure we could fid a good hundred or so high power nuclear weapons if we search the world (i.e. USA, Russia, North Korea, India etc.) then we simply need to dominate the chinese people and schedule them all to run towards dawn at a certain time, once that is scheduled we need to plan where all hte nulcear weapons will go off, that needs to be planed so the force of the blast is in the same direction as those running surfs, preferably at the opisite end of the world, that way the 2 seperate forces won't have to be quite as powerful as the one individual force acting upon the earth
or we could just make a big ass hole and drop a nuclear weapon or 10 into the planet's core, that way there probably wouldnt be as much force required as the core of the plannet is where the magnetic spinning comes from.
Or we could build a giant space magnet to interact with the core of the planet in an attempt to stop it from spinning.

I dub Johnmansley smartest guy on Metaltabs
I saw the Terminal yesterday with some friends...it was alright, pretty funny
And fuck, I saw the blair witch project too. My one friend told me it was really corny so he just fell asleep, but me and my other friend watched the whole thing. I actually thought it was a great movie. My friend concurred. Does anybody know if that was staged, or if it was real footage?

awfully boring it was too
the second one was a bit better, as seemingly they put some money into production, but it was still fairly shit

Of course it's staged. They appeared on the MTV movie awards (or some kind of awards).
I thought it was a decent movie in the thought that it provided a scary atmosphere. But it was like a handjob that you couldn't climax to.

I have yet to see the second one and most likely will never.
They seemed to not go for the whole "Lets make this look "real"" so it porbably acually has a storyline.

yah i figured it was staged...i've just never seen acting like that. It was the most real life acting I have ever seen. When they were scared, and breaking down it just seemed so real. I didn't find it boring at all. I found it more interesting. One of my favorite movies (horrors at least).

in year 9 we got to watch a "What to do in case of nuclear war" propaganda movie
the message was, "if you see a bright flash in the sky [think of john trying to stop the earth from spinning, just so those Black metalers can be grim and frostbitten] then duck and cover, you will be alright if you duck and cover"

First we've got to start off with the rotational energy that the Earth possesses as it spins on its axis. To calculate this we need to know: a) The Earth's angular velocity and b) Moment of inertia created by this angular velocity. No simple "movement in a straight-line" physics here folks!
Angular velocity is defined as:
w = 2(pi)/T
where T is the period of the spinning object, ie the time it takes the Earth to rotate on it's axis once (a day) - we need this to be in seconds.
I = (2Mr^2)/5
where M = the mass of the Earth and r = the radius of the Earth.
I = (2 x 6x10^24 x 6'400'000^2)/5 = 9.8x10^37 kg m^2
Now that we have our angular velocity and our moment of inertia, we can get into the meaty calculation, that of the rotational kinetic energy that the Earth possesses. "Kinetic energy" just means that it is the energy of movement. This is defined as:
KE = (Iw^2)/2
where I = the moment of inertia and w = angular velocity, both of which we have already worked out.
E = 10 x 3x10^8 = 3x10^9 Joules
PE = mgh
where m = mass of the person (not weight), g = the acceleration due to gravity (= 9.8 m/s^2) and h = height moved.
Thus, if an average sized person (70kg) was to run up a flight of stairs (3m high), he/she would expend:
PE = 70 x 9.8 x 3 = 2058 Joules of energy.
|
Memnoch was in this physics, too. He liked the "Ultima"-theory. or whtever it's called.
One question to this, although i didn' read it: Does it take effect where those people run? I think it would need more energy if they run at the poles, because of angles and "bar-power" (?).

Well, sorry to break the news to YOU, but I DID refer about how John might look, the remainder of the post was a sad attempt at humor for you miserable fucks (tm). Anyway, your the biggest attention whore I have met on metaltabs, excluding some of the postwhoring n00bs and Dissection of course.
Oh, and to conclude: You are a postwhore, an idiot and gay.

Oh yes, very. Too bad I forgot my cynism handles again.
But you dear sir need to lay low on the crack for a while, as the vile narcotics makes you lash out to random people around you. Stop being anal I say, before it takes over the world! STOP YOU MUST!

I am sorry to inform you that she is captured by a group of unrelentless milf hunters.
I can however take a message from you, as long as its small enough to smuggle in and optionaly swallow in case I got captured too.
