jackson licensed floyd
ok so im considering getting a jackson DK2 dinky. however i have heard that the low-end licensed floyds are dodgy and can give up after about a year of playing, e.g. the low end Ibanez RG models. the floyd used on the jacksons is the JT580. i dont know if its made by jackson themselves or another company. so i want to know will it last?? or is it better to get a hardtail axe for now and wait until ive got more to spend and then get an axe with a proper floyd.
cheers

i have an older model jackson, i dont know if the floyd was made by jackson or someone else, but it has jackson written on it
the guitar model was 1999, so that might sya something, but also it was a custom job that someone latter decided they didnt want, so it might be better because of that

i've played many jacksons with the licensed floyd on and it aint half as bad as wat people say. I think there pretty good aslong as they've been set up proply and the springs are good. So many people complain about the floyds going out of tune but it rarely happens, its only if u dont know how to use them properly/set them up.

Yeah if you like it. And you can always get a real floyd if you want to.

I wouldnt buy them on ebay unless they give you all the dimensions of it like radius and what not. You can always email them for it but its just easier to order one from a site like this:
http://www.dreamlandguitars.com/floydrose.html
Example of the ebay thing:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...ssPageName=WDVW
Doesnt tell you any of the measurements so you might end up with a floyd that wont fit your guitar. Yes, yes you can ask them for measurements if they have it, most are sold as is.

i would not recommend a low-end jackson floyd at all! the new low-end rg trems (edge pro II) are way better. the older lo-trs II that used to be on them is a POS though lol.
you can always drop in a better one.

Yeah, if your building a guitar then get a real floyd rose, not the liscensed jones, those things are terrible, 150 on ebay, do it. Its worth the extra kick. But if you are buying the guitar swap out the Liscensed Floyd then sell that for like 50 and buy a real one

okay here is what you need to know though. do not try to adjust the action with any tension on. i had a new RR3 and when i was setting it up i turned the posts to lower the action with the strings and everything on and found that the knife edges were worn down on the baseplate and the posts had grooves in them. you can do this with original floyds i guess, but the metal on the jt580 is cheaper. other than that it should work fine if you take care of it. ive heard of people swapping them out for originals with no problems also.

with a good trem (original floyd, ibanez edge, etc) you can do it with pressure on. also, you don't have to get rid of the pressure entirely. another way to change the level without damaging your blades and posts is to pull one side of the bridge off the post and adjust that one, then pull the other side off the other post and adjust that post. that way they're not scraping against eachother as you twist the post up/down.
cheaper floyds may be damaged by adjusting the posts with tension. a good one will be perfectly safe. and they can be refiled to perfection many, many times, anyway.
