i'm going to have to suggest the mesa boogie vtwin rack preamp.... sweet cleans (3 different voicings for them)... and great mesa distortion(3 different voicings as well).... plus a blend option to mix the cleans with the lead channel.
its only a preamp, so you'd need a decent poweramp to really use it.... but beeing a previous owner of one, i'd have to say it sounds like a safe bet for what you're asking...
i would especially suggest a tube poweramp so you can get some powertube saturation to help the lead in the gain department as well as get some more grit for bluesy cleans.
they go about $250-$400 used

yeah, I've played the rack version in a store, with a blue velvet pickup, it can't get more bluesy, though I didnt' think it had a vintage blues tone at all!
anyways, I'm prolly just beeing picky, but if you want real blues tones, check out oldskool amps like Vox and shit, they're great for it, though they're not really versatile...

mesa's need tweaking.... really. it took me about 30 minutes just to get a sound i wanted out of it.... then, wham, i bought it and every time i played it i tweaked it a lil' more n more... the tone just got better.....
but if you want a real blues amp buy a real blues amp.... he was just asking for something that could do metal and blues pretty well.....

yeah all mesa's need tweaking, but 'real' blues tone.. meh, not really.
if you want blues tone you don't want some half-asses blues tone, it just doesn't sound right (I'm a blues perfectionist) I'm just lucky to have a blue velvet in the mid pos of my RG... solves about half of my problems

Maybe get a nice clean amp and use a decent distortion pedal for your gain and just use the amp when you want to play blues or something.
