but you say 100w??? if you can settle for 100w s.s. then i'm sure you can settle for 60w tube....
otherwise you could afford the bv120w head, but not have a cab....

I bought two weeks ago a Peavey Supreme XL head.
I think it's on of the cheapest heads you can get at the moment, that's usefull. I bought it for 450€ about 500$, i think.
And this amp is great. You've got 2 channels with 3 "subchannels" in each channel.
They produce a really good tone. Harmonics won't stop. Nice distortion. Good clean channel. When you play chords in the clean channel, you can hear every single string.
It's loud enough for our band (2gits, bass, drums, vocals). I just need to turn the master on half power.
Read some reviews ( www.harmony-central.com ), somehow there just good ones.
Some say, you can't hear a difference between this solidstate and a tube.

SS aren't that bad. See Dimebag, he uses a ss and it isn't a bad sound, i think.
I played some shows with Marshall JCM 900s and i wasn't happy with that. I didn't really like the tone.

it's a simple rig actually.... 2 space poweramp and 1 space preamp....
and i happen to know what he has and some specs on some things... so if he has a peavey classic 50/50, i know how may tubes are in it... 12, the other three can only be one other place.... his pre.
his light show? hahaha! my rack looks like the death star or something... not from tube light either.... the little meters and lights on my rack are soo cool looking on stage in the dark....

but when you post on these forums enough you sorta learn what everybodies setups are....
like bls, to my knowledge he has a block letter 5150 with a peavey triple x cab.....
or transient.... i beleive he uses a 5150 combo...
ect....

you just learn it day by day... i might not ask alot of qeustions around here, but i'm still learning alot from these forums.. and i still see other peoples posts even if it's not of immediate interest to me....

I dont have it on all the time. Its a good quick way to change your sound. But if i dont turn the knobs right it can start to sound real fake. It definetly tightens up the low end. I like to use it as a solo boost

Poldi, I didn't get anything new, everything I bought is used, but I work enough to upgrade gear every now and then, I guess this rack costed me less then my H&K bassbase rig, but my guitar rig is getting more and more expensive every year it seems, I allready have a new SBK case for expansion

I don't trust used stuff. Bought a used 5150 some years ago with (don't laugh) a fender box. That thing sounded totally crappy and the fuse fucked up every two weeks.
A friend has it now. Still sounds not to good, but he want to change the tubes. Then we'll see. But the fuse is still working. Perhaps it was because of our old rehearsal-room.
BTW Another band-member of him has a Mesa double rectifier and he isn't able to get a nice sound.

I saw a double recto rack version for sale here, fucking overpriced though, I like Mesa's, but not so much that I'm gonna pay double for them even though they do sound good.

5150's can sound good, I like the original better then the 5150II, but thats just me I guess, with the original cab and jensen speakers it sounds like it should sound, though its not my kind of overall tone, I can't say they're bad amps, at all.

yeh, those rack rectos are expensive.... i'd just buy the recto recording pre and a vht 2/90/2 for that money.... it would sound better and give you more options....

5150's are really good amps... really trendy, but good non the less..
5150 cabs come with sheffeilds not jensens def... or did you mean put jensens in the cabs to sound good?
nothing beats two g12t-75's + two vintage 30's though.... except maybe four g12t-75's + four vintage 30's........

yeah, I with jensen's it sound better, more like the amp sounds and less like the cab sounds, if you catch my drift...

I prefer V60's over V30's in those Engl cabs, but those vintage shizzle things all sound pretty neat.
