A few of my acquantances are pushing me in the direction of marijuana. I'm not sure if I want to be a stoner. On one side there is one of the safest and most accesible drugs on the market, and the fact that I can get it for free and it feels good, on the other side there are suspicious parents, the fact that I suffered from a few phobias in the past that will likely return if I smoke, the fact that I'm straightedge and smoking marijuana would mean that I've broken my edge, and the fact that I won't be able to have a reliable source of marijuana for a long time and someday I will have to pay.

So, yay or nay? I know a lot of you guys are potheads, so advise me away.

Throw in the fact that pot is widely considered to be a 'gateway' to other, harder drugs and you've got to really consider if you want to start smoking it. Sure it's relaxing now, but is it worth it in the long run? You have to weigh all these things up before you decide.

The reason I was thinking of doing weed is not because "everybody does it". In fact, all the stoners who I know are either goths or metalheads and the reason they smoke is to get the most out of their music and to compose better. Drugs are useful sometimes as meds, but anything that will weaken your mind and/or body is generaly a bad thing. I've got lots of friends back home that have done weed for years and they tell me they have a hard time knowing how to do anything with out it now. Some have stoped using it and they enjoy everything much better now. They don't give me trouble about me not wanting to do it, because they are true friends and they respect my decission, as I do theirs. I tried it a few times when I was 15, but it wasn't for me. I couldn't think right so I never did it again. Everyone was fine with that too. It didn't make me into a guitar god like everyone said either, in fact, I sucked badly when I tried to play while high.

If you must try it, thats fine, nothing like weed we hurt you just once in a while, like alcohol, but use it sparingly and stay away from the real bad stuff.

It should be up to you if you want to smoke weed, but it won't get you addicted your first time, it won't make you crazy (unless you already are) then there could be some trouble depending on what's wrong with you. And in my experience it doesn't make you stupider unless you are stupid to begin with.
