I recently finished 'last chance to see' by Douglas Adams and... someone else... some zoologist... pretty good.

I would recommend the Dirk Gently series (well, 2 books) by Douglas adams. Funny stuff.

Wolves of the Calla. Fourth book in the same series as Trendkill's reading. It's good, but "Wizard and Glass" (the third book) was my fave by far.

At the Mountains Of Madness by H.P. Lovecraft

To tell you the truth I find it a little boring.
Before this I read The Shining by S. King
which was great.
Anyone read The Naked Lunch by Barrows?
Is it good?

Currently Reading

I just finished Four Fires by Bryce Courtneay. It deals with some stuff young people shouldn't have to face. It is a good book though.

And I'm about to start Ice Station by Matthew Reilly. Looks good.

Of Mice And Men is a great read, the re-make of the film (with Gary Sinise as George and John Malkovitch as Lenny) brought me to tears at the end. The story is tremendously well-crafted by Steinbeck and there are quite a few poignant motifs that reappear throughout the book. One of the best books I've read.

I'm not really a fan of Steinbeck, most likely because I was forced upon his work for school projects. Im reading Lords of Chaos right now for my individualized writing class.

I'd be willing to bet your dad is my age and that was on my high school reading list back in the 70's.

I just finished "Big Trouble" by Dave Berry. It was hilarious. It had Russian bad guys, a guy who lived in a tree, a python that got lose in the airport, A nuclear explosive that looked like a garbage disposal and a game called "killer" that the high school kids played. Plus a toad that caused hallucinations and crazy cops.

I'm beginning "The Present" by Johanna Lindsay which is a historical romance I read at Christmastime.

You are probably 100% right...haha my dad would never read a book if he didn't have too.

I want to get AMERICA : The Book from the Daily Show cast.

Fear and Loathing is a really entertaining book, I suggest you read "Hell's Angels" next by HST.

I'm reading this stupid ass freaking danish book at school, danish is so hard, this morning I had a danish test and I mixed up the word forskellige (undrestand) and vćrelse (bedroom) and I was supposed to describe my bedroom in danish so it sounded somthing like this in english:

In my understand there are... I have an ps2 in my understand... etc. etc.

(everywhere I say understand it's supposed to be bedroom)

Fear and Loathing is a really entertaining book, I suggest you read "Hell's Angels" next by HST.

John Stewart was on Book tv on cspan. If you go to the cspan website you may be able to get the review. I missed it cuz I fell asleep and I don't have the right stuff to read it on my pc. He's crazy, but smart.

the darwin awards III

jesus, there's some stupid people in this book. like a cadet/trainee police officer in ukraine was telling off a sergeant for walking a dog without a muzzle or leash, so the sergeant flames him back and they both get angry. so eventually, the sergeant pulls out a grenade and throws it at the cadet, but the sergeant's dog runs after it and retrieves it. the cadet runs in the other direction but the sergeants dog bolts after the sergeant and both get blown to smithereens.

i love this book.

Yes, they're great! I have the second one! People are stupid when they kill themselves.

I've been meaning to pick up Lords of Chaos. That and the Satanic Bible, just to say I've read it.

Power of The Mind. its a book about how to organize your thoughts and think more clearly and quicker. Alot of it bores me pretty bad, but its still a good read for the most part.

Long Way Round, by Ewan McGregor & Charley Boorman.

These two british actors take a motorcycle trip from London to New York... going east! Good read for motorcycle & travel enthusiasts alike.

Right now I'm just studying a c.15 Italian fighting manuscrupt, called "Fiore di Battaglia" (it's a translated version).

The long way round, I've seen some clips from the DVD, it looks pretty cool. I think visually it's a lot more entertaining don't you think?

Verging slightly off topic, I hate motorcycle law in England, If I get a license at 18, I'm limited to 250cc, so I have to get a shitty bike, then the one I really want at 21!

i feel your pain man, same here with cars. once you get your license and you go on the 3-year probation, you're not allowed to have a V8 engine or over a certain amount of Kw. it will be when i turn 21 that i'll finally get my HSV grange......

Shit, I'm reading a lot of stuff. For pleasure, I'm reading Otherland Volume 2 by Tad Williams, a sci-fi/cyberpunk saga. Then, as usual, I'm reading a couple different metaphysical books. And then there's shit for school. I'm reading stuff from my Literature book, Human Ecology, Child Psychology, Sophie's World-a novel for Philosophy class-, and my German text. I'm learning German, which is already fucking awesome.

Conclusion for about half way through the book, he was a boring fuck.

haha fingers crossed indeed!!!! HSV's are the best, no questions asked hehehehe.

nah, chevvy's aren't really my thing unless i found an ultra cheap 60's/70's thing. and classic american cars are going out, the young crowd these days opt for cars your grandmother drives (honda accords, mitsu mirages) and fUlL3 s0Up d3m uP h3Kt1kly 4 s3rI0uS.

anyway back on topic, reading the road laws, about time i got my learners.

Classic American cars are always in Andrew!
I really hate those Japanese cars, mostly because a lot of them don't actually have any performance upgrades, it's just a look. Then they've got those bumble-bee exhausts that make out like they've got 300+ HP under the bonnet.

Haha, not electrics, my friend. I swear to God, when I'm 25 I'm buying a hybrid. When hybrids are in popular use, maybe 25-50 years from now, full electrics will start catching on, too. It's going to take a while, and we can't do much now other than try to wean society onto hybrids, which in turn will prepare us for electrics, methinks. Go hybrid, my friend. Besides, other forms of transportation pollute indiscriminately as well. Some people believe in taking the train to get extra cars off the road. The problem is many (if not most) commuter trains are diesel, thereby replacing the exhaust of all cars taken off the road via the passengers. Buses might be a better alternative, although they still pollute, the number of cars they temporarily displace on the road might be worth it.

It doesn't really matter in the long run, anyway. While people are definitely working on replacing cars with environmentally friendly cars, sadly, there isn't anything being done to quell the pollution let out by factories, mills, and the like. There are also people who seem to enjoy dumping their trash in the woods. Sometimes I go and I find stuff that looks like half of somebody's house, really, like tables, mattresses, books, pictures, chairs, tools, even video games. Why put this stuff in our woods, swamps, and fields? It can just as easily be put on the curb or driven to the dump.

Then there are the perverts and drug addicts who go in the woods to do their nasty little deeds, leaving behind a plethora of homemade crackpipes (including much plastic that doesn't biodegrade well), syringes (again, plastic), condoms (rubber is bad as well), and pornographic magazines (that, fortunately, are either taken home by unrelated perverts or simply biodegrade in a few years).

I could rant forever, but I won't.

I would go hybrid if I had crazy money to spend. I am a poor college stupid; I have a hard time keeping the crappy cars I can afford. Pollution in general really gets me flaring with anger. Modern society has given me no choice but to own a car to get to my job and school which are beyond the distance of walking or cycling. Well, my job is only five miles away, but who wants to come home after dusk where we live unprotected?

That's terrible about what you find in the woods. Do you ever find books or video games that are worth keeping?

Fast cars are only useful if you actually go to trackdays and the like, or if you go on the autobahn or something. Mostly people just go for the appearance, and for them to look so "ztyleesh" people want the performance to justify that.

Books? Yes. Video games? No. They are usually broken. Sometimes tools, too. If I'm in the woods, and I find something useful, I always take it, even if I just throw it in the trash when I go home after realizing I don't need it and it will just clutter my room.

Haha, you'd get killed around here. Down in SE Massachusetts and Rhode Island, people completely ignore not only the speed limit, but also disregard just about every other traffic law as well. It wouldn't be much of an exaggeration to say that every day when I turn on the news, a new person has died in a car accident around here, which is pretty bad considering what a small area this encompasses.

People legitimately don't worry about killing themselves on the road because they don't realize 100% how dangerous it is. Sure, they know it happens to other people. Sure, they've seen it on the news. Really, though, it doesn't matter because they don't think for a second it could or would happen to them... and these people usually tend to be the worst drivers, and thusly, the ones at highest risk of killing themselves (good riddance), their innocent passengers, and any innocent people who happen to get in their way.

The likelihood of a young person being killed in a car accident within the region I live is rather unnerving.

Its the same here, But I go the speed limit... I do it cause I have no need to speed, and I enjoy pissing people off.. nothing quite like going 45 MPH when everyone else wants to go 60 MPH. It makes me feel all warm inside looking in the rear view window and seeing the fools try to pass me. I just wonder how many tickets I've saved these people.
