Silly threads; Everyone has different musical tastes, so the term "good bands" is rather...extremely impossible to answer;
Hell, I think SlipKnot and Mudvayne are good bands, but I'm pretty sure most people on this forum think they suck ass ^_^
How about (in references to your list) adding some variety
Try The Kovenant (An Industrial black metal-ish band)
Kickass

Opeth - Great progressive death metal with lots of mellow stuff. My recommendation would be to check out the Deliverance album first. And, in case you'd want to know, all songs on Damnation are mellow, so if that's not your bag of tea, you can just as well stay away from it. I like it though.
Cryptospy - I'd say it's death metal, but I dunno. Worthy of a look, at the very least.
Immolation - Similar to cryptopsy, IMO.
Now, before we get a flame war here, I'd like to say that I don't listen very much to the last two bands, and I have no idea what genre people would normally place them in. If you think my guess isn't right, just tell us. No need to flame, right?

Fuck all that gay sweedish and norwiegn shit go pick-up some Deicide, Morbid Angel, Hate Eternal, Krisiun, Severed Savior, Cephalic Carnage, Nile. That should get you started listen to Death Metal, forget all that shitty symphonic bullshit.

Burzum-second favorite black metal act. inhuman vocals, first four albums are essential listening.
Malevolent Creation-simple and brutal florida death metal. underrated. get Envenomed II
Suffocation-one of the most brutal bands of all time. from NYC. get the "two from the vaults" (pierced from within/effigy of the forgotten)
Exodus-essential bay area thrash. get bonded by blood.
thats about as good as i can do without more narrowing down.

I will have to check out those bands, we seem to have a similar taste in music. I love both Skyfire and Graveworm. I've heard a bit of summoning and it sounds pretty neat.
Other than that...Throne of Chaos, Black Dahlia Murder...I will think of more later

For summoning, you should definately check out the albums: Stronghold, Minas Morgul, and Dol Guldur. Lugburz is the first album, its considered a bit "raw" but i think it is still pretty (very) good.

Welcome to the world of death metal. You will find that you'll start dropping those shitty bands (Deicide, Hate Eternal, Morbid Angel and to a lesser extent, Krisiun). Be sure to enjoy your stay.

If you like Cradle of Filth, you should try: Hecate Enthroned and Anorexia Nervosa.
And same goes to:
In Flames and Dark Tranquillity style: Soilwork and other Göthenburg-ish stuff.
Children of Bodom style: Norther, Kalmah and Eternal Tears of Sorrow (maybe Ensiferum too, it has same style of sounding as these others).
From Black Metal: Darkthrone, Burzum, Immortal, Graveland, Inquisition and Deathspell Omega are definitely worth to check out.
Thrash: Dark Angel, Slayer, Sadus, Kreator, Destruction and (old) Metallica.
Death: Deicide, Morbid Angel, Obituary, Massacra, Vader and Suffocation
Doom: (old) My Dying Bride, Cathedral, (old) Anathema, Thergothon and (some) Candlemass
Grindcore: (old) Napalm Death, (old) Carcass, S.O.B., (some) Godflesh and Nasum
Yeah, I know, there are many famous names in this list. But maybe if you have missed some?

Up the top right, there is a list of genres, click on the one you want, it has a list of bands, click on the band you want, it gives you a background of all they're albums, and some sample's of tracks (although not for all bands)

Anus dot com's reviews of some records might be slightly difficult to understand for a person who haven't studied / got into philosophical background of metal culture. http://www.metal-archives.com/ (reviews) or http://www.ssmt-reviews.com/ are much better for the ones who are only interested of reviews without any philosophizing. Though anus dot com's explanations of metal genres, bands' music etc. are very good.

this thread is pointless...
But you should all try Mokoma, a finnish trashmetal-band. If you don't mind the finnish lyrics, it's absolutely wonderful. I love their guitar sounds, and their riffs are some of the best metal riffs I've EVER heard.
But still.... Metallica, best band ever!

i know this thread is a few days old but it seems many good early crusterpunk bands havent been mentioned and the entire genre overlooked
his hero is gone, assuck, damad, nausea, man is the bastard, dystopia, infest, masskontroll, distraught, disrupt
some of these bands have more of a discharge sound, not really metal, but definatly harsh and more brutal than alot of death metal for thier time, lo-fi recording and some obscure releases but definatly worth a listen

I'm mostly into Swedish melodic black/death metal.
I get my fix of Swedish metal from here - www.rockazilla.com
There are some pretty hard to find stuff there.
