USING MULTI-EFFECTS PEDALS

I have a zoom505II (i know its a p.o.s but it'll have to do for now) and i've gotten some patches from the net etc. and all im wondering is when using the effect does the amp still use the equilzers (im pretty sure it does im just checking for sum random reason) and if so what should i have the equilzers on the amp?

Cos my problem atm is that i have the correct patch but it still doesnt get the sound i want and im just thinking its a hassle to keep changin the equilzers on the amp everytime u want to use a dif patch.

I think the best thing you can do is dialing a good clean tone on your amp without the multi-fx first. Get it the way it sounds good. Then, edit all your patches so they sound good on the settings on your amp.
This may seem like a hassle, but a good tone needs sweat and blood, not just downloading patches from the net

I use my Zoom 707 mk1 thru my crappy old stereo for practise at home., and it sounds killer. Sounds crappy thru my amp tho, even though I have attempted to use it thru my amp properly on several occasions, by setting up the clean chnanel and the patches as described above. It just never works out for me. I always prefered the amp's distortion...

I would suggest you put your Multi-FX in the FX loop of your amp, if your amp supports it that is...
And I would also suggest your remove the distortion (and probably the compressor) from patches you would use with your amps distortion.

Why?

well... Sound&tonewise, this usualy sounds best:

Guitar -> Compressor -> Distortion -> Noise canceling -> Modulation (Reverb, Flanger, Chorus, Delay etc.)

if you dont put your fx in the loop (and use the pedalboards distortion and compresion as wel) you'll get;

Guitar -> Compressor -> Distortion -> Noise canceling -> modulation -> amp distortion

Basicly, you'll want to modulate an distorted signal, you dont want to distort an modulated signal.
And if you like your amp's distortion, make sure to edit the distortion out of the patches...
But its all up to you. If you like it better your way, then do it the way you want to!
