X2N
I've decided that my soon to be new guitar (ibanez s1625, mahogany body, trem and bolt on) will have a dimarzio X2N in the bridge, but i m unsure as to wat its overall sound will be like. I've played an x2n in a mates guitar which had no trem, was a threw neck and had an alder body and it sounded fucking amazing. My question is will the properties of my soon to be guitar in any way effect the sound in a bad way? This is prob a stupid question but i just wanna make sure it wont go all sludgy etc. Cheers

The Mahogany will give it a more bottom end, and good mids. If the bolt on neck is a tight joint, then you wont notice much difference in sustain. Should sound fine.

well, the x2n is a pretty hot pickup... hotter than the duncan invader.. and it has a clearer tone imo... that guitar should sound fine with one.

I actually read one guy's review (prob on harmony central) who put one in a mahogany guitar and he said it was indeed sludgy. But he was probably a fucking yahoo. Let us know how it sounds when you get it.
Holy fuck I've been waiting for ever for my new guitar with an x2n. Can't wait!

you have to understand that alot of people that post reviews on harmony central either:
1. hate that peice of equipment and give it bad review because they're pissed about it.
2. give it good reviews because they are trying to sell theirs
3. just barely bought one and are soo stoked about it they give it all tens even though they havent built an honest opinion about it.
so i wouldnt trust too much....

I'm getting an X2N and a PAF Pro this week... I can try to post sound clips of them played through a 5150, but my recording "setup" sucks balls ($15 tape recorder). I think that DiMarzio's got clips of at least the PAF Pro on the website, and I loved the way that sounded.
I think somebody else on here plays a Tone Zone + Air Norton combo, so maybe Air Norton would be another good neck pickup.

the x2n in the bridge wont give you a clean clean... lets just put it that way... having really high output pickups is kinda like putting a light o.d. box in front of your amp... great for grittin up your sound though......
i'd go with a duncan 59 in the neck though, that would probably sound good with the x2n....

59 should work fine, dimebag uses a very similar setup.

I've been playing the X2N - PAFpro combination now for a little while and they sound so sweet together. X2N is of course badass, but the two pickups also balance very nicely and give an excellent tone when both are selected.
Also, as far as the clarity of the X2N, it's extremely clear... I can turn my 5150 up to lead pregain 7 and still get plenty of clarity on multiple notes played simultaneously. My guitar's got a basswood body, but I'm sure the pickup would still sound super clear on a mahogany guitar.

Man, I know you'll love it! That thing sings and howls! Tonight I thought it sounded especially good and noticed that the mids on the amp were turned up to 8 by mistake!! WTF... I don't understand it, but the palm muting still totally fucking owned and the pinch harmonics were wailing like lost souls. Lord almighty, that's a good fucking pickup.

Yeah... I just didn't know how good a friend until this very night *sigh*.
With the pickup I had before, everything just turned all mushy with the mids turned up.

I've had an X2N in a Jackson PS4 Performer series for several years now. It's a low range Jackson and I think it has a Alder body. Back when the neck wasn't stuffed and you could actually play the damn thing it sounded very good. I've played it through a Marshall Valvestate and a Peavey 5150 to great effect. It has balls to the wall and excellent tone. I've yet to try it out in something a little better to see what the characteristics are, however it is a great choice in my books so far.

Yeah, man. The neck always felt weak and way too easy for me to bend. After a while no amount of truss rod tweaking would bow the neck enough to make the guitar playable without the strings lying flush on the frets. It plays fine in either winter or summer (it's been so long I don't remember which) but the opposite season sees it stuffing up again. I'd suspect that the timber was not seasoned properly.
