You wont get a better pickups combination than the JB and Jazz

He might like some active EMGs. But what he has in there right now is already pretty damn good.

you CAN get a better pu setup than a jb and jazz... different pickups for different styles.
and emgs arent ruining anything tonewise.. lots of people use emgs and get great tones. the only real thing that can ruin tone is a shitty guitarist.

Fair enough, EMG's just lack versatility imo. Thier good at what they do, nothing else. Too much of a Generic tone. But whatever floats your boat, i once thought EMG's were the shit until i tried soem quality passives.. i just wish some of these kids would put the old "emg is the best" myth to death.
And are you trying to tell me that gear has absolutly no affect on your tone??

You have a great guitar, but do you have an equaly great amp? Even if you have the best pickups, you wont hear much if you dont have an good amp. For example, I replaced the stock single coil pickup in my strat with a SD JB humbucker, but on my shitty 22 watt amp I barely noticed much difference ...or maybe its my sucky MT-2 pedal?

some good advice , i'm changing cause pickups are shot (bought guitar second hand for €600) so is it better to replace seymour duncans or to change to EMG 81/81
use fender amp or line 6 Flextone
gona play heavy mostly but trying to get balance
could do metallica invert with emg's
anyone use EMG-25 pack?

If I was you I'd bring your amp(s) to a good guitar shop(s) that has guitars w/ EMGs and w/ the Duncans, and see what you think of the tone of each setup. Hell, I brought my 5150 around to try out guitars, and that thing weighs fucking 85 lbs, but it was well worth it.
Unless you're thinking about upgrading your amp soon as well, in which case just try out shit with whatever amp you actually want to be playing through.

some people swear by the pickups they love, the same way you swear by your jb's.

no, but i don't see how having active emg's would ruin your tone... bad gear is bad gear.... but emg's arent bad gear.
