Martyr
I think these guys enjoy torturing their fans... I need a new album! First it was the classic breakout Hopeless Hopes, then they followed up with the brilliant Warp Zone.
They can do no wrong.

If you guys like Martyr, then check out Caphurnaum (with Mongrain!). Much better vocals, better songs, better riffs, ect.
Cudos to Nihilist for introducing me to them!

i LOVE Martyr's vocals, its a nice change from "growl greww gro gog o frha" you can hear what hes saying, yet its still agressive.

I have Fractured. While it's quite amazing, it loses the certain charm Martyr has. They have this cold, clinical feel that somehow retains emotion.
And I used to abhorr the vocals, but I realize that I wouldn't like the band as much with the standard Death Metal vocals.

I know what you mean by Martyr being able to create an atmosphere, but they often ruin it by trying to be too technical, if you will. Like the beginning of Virtual Emotions... It's opening is very promising but then they digress into some other structure.

I wouldn't say those bands are really technical. Although, Control Denied's "Fragile..." is amazing.

Which is why I also added the "cold and clinical" comment. I find that it fits into the context. I find they show the emotion behind the music a bit better on Hopeless Hopes (IMO, the better album of the two).
