Pitchshifting vocals & other effects
Any of you are familiar with this machinery?
A friend of mine was thinking about getting a Digitech VX400 or Vocal300, are they any good or is there other and better stuff? Since I don't know nothing about this branch of toys.

i guess i'll be the first to give you a "non ignorant" answer.
because somethings the human voice just can't do.... those units are fine imo, but their is alway better... imo, tc electronics and lexicon make the best rack effect units period.... but they don't come to cheap, the alesis midiverb's arent too bad, and they're way affordable.

open your eyes man, that comparison is the worst i ever read.
A Pitchshifter is the same as for example a distortion pedal. Metal sounds retarded without it.
If you have a lame grunt (wich that person abviously has), a pitchshifter helps you.
But i think its a waste of money anyway. Just use cool edit.

Its like a good amp, but you cant change, a 5150/Recto/Marshall whateva has awesome distortion and can handle things well wilst a Fender has brittly clean tone and weak distortion and could use some outside help to get it to sound mean.

whoa....."doctor", pitch shifting is nothing like distortion...
effects like pitchshifting, harmonizing, octave, ect. just change the the actual notes/pitch the singer is singing or make it sound like he is playing two notes at once.... most of these techniques(harmonizing, and certain singing ranges) take years of training or are impossible.
transient, that was a meaningless and stupid example.... playing or programming a guitar solo is nothing like using vocal effects.

i suppose i was wrong, but i think that would sound cheesy anyways unless its used sparingly. the only song i can think of that uses any kind of effect on screaming is opeth-demon of the fall and a couple other opeths

alot of bands use effects over the vocals on recordings, sometimes it just isnt noticeable...
reverb, compression, delay, filters, lo fi, tremelo, vibrato, ect... very cool shit if used properly....

Oh the Athems of Rebellion Angela uses some cool vocal effects, but if use all the time it would be horrible. I still think she may have over used them, but its still kinda cool.
