Opeth to begin work on new material
OPETH frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt has started writing material for the group's next album, tentatively scheduled to be recorded sometime in the early spring of 2005. In other news, Åkerfeldt recently visited No Man Studios in Hemel Hampstead, U.K. to lay down some guitars and backing vocals for the next, as-yet-untitled PORCUPINE TREE record. Mikael plays guitar on one track and sings backing vocals on another five songs. The album is due for release late this year. Also on the OPETH-related front, it is likely that OPETH will put out an audio version of the Shepard's Bush (DVD) concert. If this becomes a reality, there will be some "fantastic and super-exclusive extra features," according to a posting on the band's web site. With regards to their label situation, the band write, "Music For Nations is likely to close their doors within a near future, leaving their roster in the hands of BMG. What will happen to the bands is so far unknown, but it's possible that OPETH will be without a record contract in the near future. This is an effect of the massive merge between Zomba Records and BMG."

New album... Better be more interesting than Deliverance and Damnation. Still good, but...
Lets just hope they don't end up with out a contract. They could get one with most any label, but...
*Thinks*
Welcome DEF JAMS newest signing, OPETH.

mmm, new opeth, on the lamentations dvd they talking about it being a concept album, with some black metal influence in the sound, but on the ultamite metal - opeth forums, mikael said that they are working with some really odd open tunings, as well as gregorian chant. sounds interesting.

Gregorian chantin? Sounds intresting... I only hope this will not be another quality metal band turning to gothic rock... (Paradise lost anyone? )

You of little faith!
Somehow, I think I trust Opeth to fuck around with all kinds of loopy shit and still make music I want to listen to.

this band is just going to produce another borring album that sounds pretty much the same as all their other borring albums. And as a side note, paradise lost is also borring garbage.

I dunno bout this one... they haven't done anything great since Still Life. They seemingly lost their prowess with the band member change (even if they were excellant up to BwP).

BwP is my favourite from Opeth (Of all two albums i own) but the actual track BwP skips and jumps around like a stoned Dave Mustaine trying to play Psycroptic

Listen to the man.
Opeth are brilliant enough to make any album at least DECENT. Deliverance was kinda boring, but I can say that it was pretty good. Just wait.
lets hope they don't pull a megadeth....

Now who has little faith?
Yeh, Demon of the Fall was a top track, but what about Wreath, and other heavier tracks? Mind you, i only have Deliverance and BwP, Deliverance apparently being the heaviest of their albums.
