It really depends on your equipment, what sounds like it on one setup won't on another. MoP deffinitely didn't have scooped mids, in fact most 80's thrash has alot of mids, not sure why so many people scoop them. It is easier to hide mistakes with them scooped so maybe that's it.

really old metallica (Kill 'em all especially) had scooped mids, then they figured out that it sounds like shit without the mids, but yeah, cut the mids a bit, tone up high, lows around 6ish, mids at 5ish, not to much gain, you should be good.

or any marshall for that matter, i could get a better sound out of an mg or avt's o.d. channel.
but mettallica i beleive used mesa recto's,modded ada mp-1's, and deizel amps.... so that might help even though i bet you couldnt afford a deizel or anything and i'd be forced to call you stupid if you bought one of those just to sound like metallica.....

I thought James used emgs from ride on. And Kirk didn't use them til later on. Anyways, the basic metallica tone I use is bass-5, mid-3, treble-9.

Ones you can't afford. Why do you want to sound like them anyway? I would suggest finding a tone that *you* like and then flow from there. People are always asking "how do I get a so-and-so tone?" as if it's going to make them sound better or something. I'd say it has more to do with the person behind the axe than the amp or anything else for that matter.

Pedals aren't necessarily crap, its just when people use pedals with expensive amps that its stupid. Its ok if you're on a budget and can't afford a very expensive amp to use a pedal.

Ok. Pedals aren't gay its just that "some" people think its newbish to use pedals. but hell. who made that law? god for sure as hell didn't so fuck them and fuck there whinney little ass. you can use pedals all you want. any kind. there will always be critics. there is never someone who can't like something for a certain reason. so if you take up what other people say well fuck them. because you should try it out yourself. you might think of it different. not everyone is the same.

Thats not all true. most amps have the effects built in them. and some "good" amps like the 5050 doesnt have everything on it so the owner might go "hell i need a new sound" . That person can resolve to pedals. its not that its stupid its that the person is looking for something new. but if the amp has overdrive on it and they want a MT-2 That wont seem stupid because the amp might have crapy ass overdrive. so yes. there is a difference. and no its not stupid its the choice that person makes.

let me guess, you use a pedal....

it's stupid when somebody spends hundreds, even thousands of dollars on a high gain amp then uses a cheesy distortion pedal like the mt 2.
if you're going to use pedals on an expensive amp, use a GOOD pedal on a clean amp... it will sound better.

i got one of these that other day(because i still am looking for a nice amp) and i like the sound at lower volumes... but im runing this through my shity tube amp and i cant get nearly as much sound out of it with the mt-2 pluged in... am i doing somthing wrong? because its a huge differnce... with out the mt-2 pluged in the amp is loud enough to hurt my ears... and with it in i can barely disturb my parents(with volume cranked all the way)

oh and id like to add that at lower volumes im getting a sound alot like on panteras cowboys from hell; the settings are at: volume 12:00; Low all the way up; high al the way up; mid: 10-11:00 mid fequency: 2-3:00 and gain all the way.

That's way too much gain, try 10 o'clock, that should be plenty. You're missing out on all the cool low tones.
I can get early metallica sounds with these basic settings:
http://members.cox.net/sean_and_alicia/anubismt2.JPG

The mt-2 pretty much sucks for leads no matter what you do. It can sound really cool for some things, but other times it just seems cold and thin. One trick pony.
