Yep, great site, every scale you could probably ever want. Also look into buying the guitar grimoire - scales and modes.

the numbers going across the top represent the frets and the letters to the left are the strings so you read the dot kinda like a graph if a dot is at 4, D then its fourth fret on the d string

yea i think it depends on what the root of the scale is and what is being played underneath the scale

why would you want to learn something youd never use, the only scales i need are pentatonics and harmonic, melodic, and natural minors.

true but say you want a particular sound for a song or just a passage within the song its cool to go and learn the scale even to just use it once, although i wouldnt go and learn scales and scales just incase i might want them in the future cause thats boring

I know, and I do use all of the modes(phrygian,major,dorian...)but what i meant was in just plain improvisation and stuff like that.
I also use the Dim. scale(w,h,w,h,...)and I would use other ones, but not really memorize them, just look up the formulas and apply them.

They're interval maps, just play the intervals in order on any one string, or combination of strings. Personally I think it's a good idea to learn the scale on each string. Once you have those down, then move in on the 3 note per string patterns.

i think its the number the note is in the scale (if im right) then if the scale went a,b,c,d,e,f,g, d would be #4 f would be #6 ect

they're called modes. it kinda works like this:
an example.
E minor has the same key signature as G major and A dorian, ect.
one #, so the notes in that key signature are;
A B C D E F# G
if you play through those notes starting on A, you just played an A dorian mode.
if you play through those notes starting on B, you just played a B phrygian mode
if you play through those notes starting on C, you just played a C lydian mode.
if you play through those notes starting on D, you just played a D mixolydian mode.
if you play through those notes starting on E, you just played an E natural minor(aeolian mode).
if you play through those notes starting on F#, you just played a F# locrain mode.
or if you played through those notes starting on G, you just played a G major scale(ionian mode).
ect.
it's really cool and effective stuff to know and use.

I do know all the modes, and how to use them, but what I meant was that many of the scales have the same formulas like, if I remember correctly, the chinese scale and the melodic minor are the exact same scale(1,2,b3,4,5,6,7) and there's many more cases like that(dim.=1,2,b3,4,b5,b6,6,7,)which also comes out as the auxiliary blues scale and another couple names more.

Gaelic Scale = pentatonic + minor third
ex. DEFGACD
sometimes the third is major
ex. GABCDEG
it is hexatonic
nothing special
but to maintain Scottishness, go for a 6/8 beat
9/8 is typically Irish

the dorian mode sounds most like that.
take differnt scales and put them into modes. u get an odd effect. for example the gypsy scale is harmonic min in prygian form.
if u want a greek sounding scale go with the lydian mode in any form.
remember intervals, they play a vital role in scales
