i need a lesson on understanding poems

It's simply mom's way of saying that she's thinking of her boy going back to the Navy and away from home. She wishes the best for him and can't think of anything else right now but her son's welfare. That's her main focus and the rest of the world just doesn't really matter at the moment.
Anything else you'd like to know? I don't mind explaining.

well i understand this one, because you pretty much explained it at the start, but i just have trouble figuring out other poems but hey, im sure it will come

hey Gram, was there also pride in there? pride that your son works for our country? and if he's going off "to sea" then, pride that he's fighting for our country, that he's putting his life in danger for all of us back here on the shore?
do you know why my great uncle fought in WWII, invaded Normandy, Sicily, Naples, fought, and lived and Monte cassino? do all of you know why he did this? it's so that we could grow up, so that we could live in peace, but i think he realized while he was fighting that he was also doing this for people like me. people who would grow up and do exactly what he's doing. who put their lives on the line, so that others can grow up and do the same thing. this is why we fight, this is why we die. some must die so that others can live. i don't know about you, but i'm going to be one of the ones who is willing to die. because i value freedom, and not just my own, but also the freedom of people around me.
sorry about the lecture guys, but i just had to get that out.

I know what you mean. I'm sure Soulinsane does, too. I'm proud of my kids. I think they turned out all right so far. They've lived some rocky roads sometimes, but they manage to pick themselves up and make life a little better for themselves. If you had known what he was like 5 years ago and seen the changes in him, it still amazes me.

There is something about seeing men and women in uniform that makes me walk a little taller and feel a little safer. And when it's summer whites Navy uniforms it seems even moreso for some reason. To see one sailor in a crowd of civilians makes my heart leap, but seeing them on the bases and all the structure just makes me feel really proud to know my kid, his dad,and his dad ,and my dad were all part of the system. Even though there's a few rotten ones either following orders or taking detriment into their own hands, I know they're the minority. They should be punished. But for the most part we have a military to be very proud of. God bless 'em.

yeah, i'm very proud of our military. my dad's been in the navy for my entire life, so that's the only life i know, and i like it. even though we move around every three years, i know that we're doing it for my country. that makes it all better.
