Fucking hot amp

i got this uh.. crate v3112, god im starting to hate it. when its on for about an hour or so the metal volume/tone knobs heat up to such an incredible degree you cant touch them for more then a second with out burning your fingers.

so my question is, i know its the tubes heating it, but wtf is with that and can i fix it?

Not sure, is it an old amp?
And do you like the tone of the amp cuz if it sounds like shit and gets hot then I would get rid of it.

Pour some water on it to cool it

No, don't do that. I couldn't stop myself from typing it, but try putting some athletic tape on the knobs to keep from getting burned.

Also make sure the speaker load ohms are correct or else those tubes will meltdown.

well, it shouldnt be getting so hot that you burn your hands by touching the knobs.... so i'd get it repaired, in the mean time start saving for a better amp.

Tube amps generate lots of heat, but I have never seen one that cooks the knobs. I feel that something isn't right about this amp. If you can't talk your Dad into another amp then explain to him that this one really needs to be looked at before it burns out it's componants of causes a fire. Hopefully the amp will need work and some parts replaced, so at the same time have the amp modified for more gain to be a more metal amp Its all in the tubes and speakers.

sell the gnx3 seeing as you have no use for it other than it's awful distortion... and sell you current combo.... then take that money and buy a crate bv212 60w tube 2x12 combo off ebay(they go for like $200-300 u.s.).

so sell it and buy a di box or speaker emulator for recording.

position a fan so that the tubes get some air. if you dont like it, dont bother throwing away money on it. just save up for a new amp. there are some good deals to be found on used mesa/boogies these days.
