Hey, that's not a shitty CRATE practice amp, it's a top of the line monster. I'm sure that it doesn't "suck". I do agree that generally CRATE makes shit, but they have a few good products as well. That amp probably isn't your run of the mill shitty CRATE. Could be wrong but I doubt it, and CRATE has actually put out a few decent sounding amps recently, back in the late 80's they put out some shit that really sucked. Alot of that has changed now, though overall they're not up to par with other things that are available.

well, i talked to somebody who was actually at that convention thing. he said it was as loud as his cranked 50w plexi halfstack when it was below 1.... so i'm thinking that thing cranked to ten really could bring down a building.......

Really now. The half stack would work just fine for me. I would need no ladder but maybe a short stick. I know Crate can make some quality amps, but don't trust their stock shit. Get it modified with quality components or custom built by them. I'm from St. Louis and they will let you tour there factory and let you design any amp you want.

guys with small weiners say "it's not the size of the boat that counts, it's the motion of the ocean."(low wattage amps that can sound good). then they where multiple thick condoms(mic'ing through the PA for the majority of the volume). but everybody knows it wont feel as good for either partner(wont sound as good as the real amp providing most of it's own volume).

i just thought i'd be a smart ass . but yes, 50w tube can often be plenty. not for me though, but my band plays loud, i need the headroom and power. we don't adjust the levels so that you can just hear the guitars through the drummer like most bands, we adjust so we can just hear the drummer through the guitars.  . it just sounds better.

depends on which marshall and or which mesa.... and what style of music.... cuz a 300w tube crate blue voodoo would whip the shit out of a marshall avt50 fullstack perse' in both volume and tone....
once you get on a certain level of quality in amps, there is no best... it all becomes personal taste.... some people like the beefy midrange from say, a marshall jcm, some people like the boomy lows from say, a mesa recto.... some people like the dark/unique sound of a blue voodoo...
