If you ask me, Ancient rites is now viking metal. If youre lucky enough to find some mithotyn GET IT!!! if youve heard them, you know what im talking about. And I'll advise anyone who likes viking metal to go to ebay and get some mithotyn now, even if you hav'nt heard them. It is a wise choice.

also ive heard Turisas (spelling?) a while back and they were close to finntroll.

most above bands can be found in the cd-stores over here,
or I let people buy that album in their country and send it over, and trading it for another album...

that;s the way, how I get the stuff.

The one Turisas which I have heard about was closer to Sonata Arctica style stuff with epic/folkish themes (It is a newcomer folk/power metal band from Finland). This might be different band.

I havnt heard sonata arctica, so i dont know if they are like them. It was a long time ago that i did hear turisas, so maybe my memory is off, all i know is at the time i associated them with finntroll from the loud folk keyboards.

Yeah, that is quite clear influence from Finntroll to Turisas, but I also think that there would be a somesort of influences from Bal-Sagoth too (atleast in their newest release it is more like it).

Amon Amarth is probably one of the better Viking Metal bands...
Finntroll is more Polka Metal stuff...

Yes, the musical structure of Amon Amarth isn't any folkish or epic, it is just, as you mentioned, Death Metal with viking themed lyrics. But some people does call the band's music as Viking metal because of that.

yah I saw them live, and they were really borring. Their sound is just as has been previously mentioned. Black/death metal. But I guess it's fair to call them viking because of their obvious lyrical focus on the subject.
