Pickup Position
On the guitar you can adjust how close the pickup is to the strings, could this affect how muddy/clear the sound is? Like i have my bridge pickup pretty close to the strings, and its pretty muddy could it get more clear if i lowered it do you think, or maybe turned it around so i got the pole pieces in another way?

Quit being such a little bitch about it and maybe someone will.
And no. The pickups dont determine the mudiness, they just determine the tone sort of of what you want.

"your" is possessive, dickface. If you're gonna insult people at least get the spelling right. Yeah, lowering your pickup or simply turning down the volume might help clean up a little of that muddiness that you're talking about.

dont get too stressed, most people in this forum have better things to do than constantly search for new threads to post in
anyways i keep my pickups at about a cm away from the strings. So the strings dont attract to the pickups.

I got an idea....how 'bout you just try it and find out for yourself? There's no telling what that adjustment will do to YOUR setup. You won't hurt anything by just experimenting.

Adjust the pickup so high that the strings are touching it, that gives you the best tone!

I think he deleted his post as to not start a fight.
In general, the closer the pup is to the strings, the louder and more bold the guitar tone becomes, because the strings pass through a stronger area, and more of, the magnetic field. The drawback to this is the magnetic field will pull the strings toward it more and kill sustain.
Active pups, like EMG, don't have a very strong natural magnetic field, but instead generate a electro-magnetic field when turned on. This means that they can be moved closer to the strings without lose of sustain and benefit from the closer string position tone. Some poeple don't like the sterile sharp tone, but the muddiness is gone.
As for reversing the pup polarity in your guitar, I did this by accident in my 7string guitar. I installed the neck pup in the opposite magnetic direction of the bridge pup. I like the sound I get when I have both pups selected at the same time. I think this is called having them out of phase. Give it a shot and see if you like.
Just adjusting your pups around ( but keep the bridge pup at the bridge and in normal polarity or else it sounds like shit ), and adjust your pups up level to your strings slowly and until you get the tone you like. This takes long amounts of time to get perfect if this is your first time developing your tone. DON'T fuck with the poll piece screws directly on the pups if you have them, because they are hard to fix once unbalanced. And finally, common since, don't adjust your pups up so high that the strings touch them while playing the guitar.

I think you will get more mud if you lower your picups.

Just make sure that the pickuspa rent so clsoe that the pole peices pull the string towards them. Ive had my pickups do that... it pissed me off until i found out what the porblem was.
