200 bucks, good deal for it's condition, it pretty much looks like it was shipped from the factory yesterday. Yeah the distortion on the amp sucks, but that's ok, I use other things for that anyway. The phaser on the other hand rules.

Transient, Is your 5150 new and stock? And how are you liking it? I personaly disliked the stock 5150's distortion. I Havent tried a non-stock 5150. I'm looking around for one but no stores seem to have them.

it really depends on the tube amp..... older one channel heads might need o.d. or boost pedals to help the amps dist... like old marshalls and sovtek mig series(jcm 800 clones). as well as other non high gain amps like peavey classic 30's, and fender tube combos.

some sort of graphic eq,parametric eq,or sonic enhancer(bbe sonic maximizer,aphex aural exciter, ect.). would all help.... great for tightening lows,improving the tone, and fine tuning on specific frequencies....
when i play my setup with out my sonic maximizer its great, but then when i switch it on, holy shit, i can't beleive i thought it sounded good without....

just because it's a rack eq doesnt mean it's better... there are some nice eq pedals and some real cruddy rack eqs.... but there are more rack eqs to choose from and alot are nicer than the pedals and offer more.

Agreed And a tubescreamer isent a distortion pedal. But hey if fish head wants to run a mt-2 through his TUBE amp then i guess ill let him. And i really like the MXR 10 Band eq. Works great, the ge-7 isent bad either... i use one with my 515 and it does wonders.

hey guy, i use a zoom 2020 for my distortion, cus my peavey 50 calssic has the shittiest amp dist. known to man, my fuckin 8 watt bcrich practice amp gets better ammp distortion.
there is nothing wrong with pedalsm, you just have to know how to use them right.

A good amp will definatly give you better distortion than a pedal could ever. Its ok to use pedals if your amp is shit and you are just practicing at low volumes because the louder you turn up the amp, it starts to distort more by itself and with the pedal it sounds bad.

Problem is, some of the best amps were manufactured before "good" distortion existed. Have you ever played through a Fender Bassman? Yeah, it's a bass amp, but oh my god the tone. You're not gonna get good distortion out of the amp though. The Peavy Classic, another great example, amazing sounding amp, but the distortion blows. Well I guess it's cool for Sabbath songs and shit like that, but yeah playing metal through the stock distortion is almost out of the question. It can be done though, and it can still kick your ass, it all depends on who's playing the axe.
