I agree with him about people starting bands when they arent that good at guitar but,Slipknot isnt good and Mick claims to have been playing for 20 years.Doesn't look like it shows.It's all drop tuned 1 finger powerchords.His atte,pts at "solos" on the new album are all chromatic,sloppy,showoff,and they don't develope their songs or show any feel or emotion.What are you alls thoughts?

but slipknot aren't just all 1 finger drop-tuned power-chords. that's objective, that can be proven, and you're definitely wrong.
Another thing is, the playing on a record doesn't necessarily reflect the true ability of a guitarist. He may have made the solos easy so he can play them live without difficulty, but you don't know how well he can shred off record. He could be a real virtuoso, but just chooses not to (just like on the previous albums by not even soloing at all)

I think Mick isn't bad, but he would have to leave Slipknot to get any respect from most folks on this forum. This is supposed to be their last album together as Slipknot, so hopfully Mick does get away from the other 8 and does something respectful after they are done touring. I heard some of the solos on this last CD... Not bad! Showed he really had talent, to me.

Look, it's soulful music, it has emotion. It's not your style, but guess what, they're famous and you're not. So you raggin on them amounts to a pile of maggot infested dogshit. Is it simple? Hell yes it is, but guess what simple doesn't mean it sucks. Alot of good music is simple, look at AC/DC. For fucks sake, look at Black Sabbath. If Mick left Slipknot he wouldn't be considered nearly as bad of a guitarist. Drop D and other drop tunings are alright if you utilize them properly. Take a look at shadows fall. They use drop C tuning and are amazing with it. A lot of slipknot stuff is simple 000-11-00-1-00-2-3-4- kind of stuff. Only thing that truly makes it hard is the speed and that isn't entirely fast either.

That Joey dude ( if thats the other guitarist ) lost all respect with me after that Stone Sour shit, and he plays some damn Fender in Slipknot, I think. Now I'm not saying that a good metal guitarist can't be metal with a Fender, but I think that Micks' custom B.C. Rich warrock is better made for the job and reflects that Mick has heart and knowledge is based in real metal. Shit I don't care how simple Slipknot songs are to play, does that really matter? The most technical song in the world can still be complete shite, i like Slipknot because they are simple and straight to the point, they don't piss about trying to impress people with flashy guitar solos etc... They make good straight-to-your-face music that makes a welcome change from really technical guitar. Though, hell i do like technical death metal as much as the next guy here, but i can't listen to that all the time, shit, I even listen to REM (let the flames commence!)

I agree what diffrence does it make if you can shred while your just sitting around the fact that he has an inability to incorperate that talent into his music still makes him a bad guitarist. It is also my opinion that if you have been playing seriously for 20 years you should be GODLY, his lack of pride and dedication to his music makes him nearly as bad of a guitarist as if he could not play at all (which has not been proven otherwise).

he's an alright guitarist, nothing special although i did here a couple of decent solo's coming from him when he was having a jamming session with satriani in this mag. anyways slipknots new stuff is really really shite, the solo's are pretty crappy, they sounded like poorly imitated and very shite slayer solo's.
