Neebie Ampage!!
Hello Everybody,
Firstly a bit of background, I am really in to Nu/Heavy Metal and I want to learn to create this sound. I recently bought a new guitar which I wanted for ages the Ibanez RG270 , and I am currently looking to purchase the BOSS HT-2 metal pedal . I am not in a band neither am I very good at the moment however and this leads me to the question I am looking for major advise on is this:
I am currently looking to purchase a really good solid state combo amp and have been looking at the following:
Marshall MG100DFX
Line 6 Spider II
Peavey Bandit 112
Now I have read several post's on what's the best amp, and I dont really want to limit myself to a 15 or 30 watt practice one in case I get lucky and eventually get into a band. But at the same time I am by no means a professional rock star and dont want a half or full stack.
This is why I though of a solid state combo around the 100W mark would suffice and future proof me for a while. Out of the three amps and bearing in mind I want to be a metal head I love the look of the Peavey Bandit 112, but have not heard one but have read good things about them.
I also visited my local music shop and spoke to the staff in there and they suggested the marshall for heavy or the line 6. But I still think and what I have read leans me toward the Peavey.
Please can somebody help me choose between these three for features and sound as I can not make a proper decision, I am looking to get one of them in the next couple of days. If there is another amp anyone thinks would be better then please suggest it. I dont really want to pay any more than £250 max as I will be looking for a good second hand bargain as music stores are too dear.
Please reply with some advise as soon as you can so I can check the thread today as I have seen a Peavey Bandit 112 that I was going to bid on in ebay.
Thanks to all in advance who post.

Nu-Metal is disgusting but lets not talk about that....
I think you should go with Peavey Bandit 112 , its 80 watts i think and has some good bang for buck and tone, and if you join a band it has an external speaker output too. Spider II comes in 75 1x12, 120 2x10 and 150 (2x75) watt 2x12 and a 150 watt head. MG Series suck, dont even think about it.

Don't listen to music store clerks unless YOU know what you're talking about. They will just try to sell you things from brands they sell. But you seem like the typical nu-metal dumbass, so get a Line-6 it will complement the tone of your Ibanez...

Dumdass??
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replys so far, but as I stated I like both types of metal so not a complete dumbass eh! As for me amp am still keen on the Peavey, but I heard that the Line 6 is a very good alternative what make's the line 6 better then? as I think its a bit more expensive.

Line 6 spider has amp modeling abilities with effects. That will give you a greater tone range to explore and no need for the Boss HT-2. Plus, you can always add a cab later for bigger sound.

go to the store, plug into every amp in your price range, turn the mids down and the highs/lows/gain up....... then buy which ever one tickles your fancy, used on ebay so that you wont kick yourself in the face later in your life for dropping so much money on such an amp.....
trust me

i was joking about him liking nu metal tone and how he would regret it if he bought a cheap amp for scooped tone.

out of those amps id pick the Bandit 112. Line 6 sucks, i hate digital shit. But since you like nu-metal all you'll need is a shitty amp and a crappy tone sucking pedal to get that scooped sound.

I NEVER scoop my mids, it is fucking stupid, you know why? Because I play more than 1 finger power chords and I like to actually hear what I play. And for someone reason I dislike it when it sounds like my amp is under 5 feet of mud.

i hate scooped sounds, i used to do that, but then i found out that it not only sounds louder, but sounds better when the mids are there, and with the peavey classic 50 tube amp i have now, it sounds really nice.

Well around here people scoop their mids all the time, I go into the local music place to try some amps out, and if you look at the settings mids are waaaaaaaaaaaay down and the rest are boosted.

Have you looked into the crate GLX series? Those IMHO are better than Line 6 any day of the fuckin' week. I don't particularly care for any of your choices, I'm a tube guy and don't play nu-metal but you shouldn't just limit yourself to those 3 amps. The GLX will give you the sound(s) you want.

i don't scoop my mids out, on my jmp-1 the mids go from -6 to 6, i usually have them on 0-1(about halfway up), and my sonic maximizer kinda scoops my sound for me because it only has lo contour(lows) and bbe process(highs) so i use my graphic eq to boost my mids and cut out the lows a bit.
but when i want a really cool sludgey underground deep sound for simple chord breakdowns and stuff,i have a couple presets on the jmp-1 that have scooped mids, but my main playing tones never do.
you wont be able to cut through the mix as well without mids, another thing is that for riffs that require alot of picking technique scooped out mids will sound like ass(if you can even hear the notes), plus to get a decent tone out of most good amps you need a bit of mids in there.

Bandit was the winner
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the immense feedback and doing the poll, I know the Line 6 became the most popular but in the end my funds would not stretch that far , I also took your advise and ruled out the MG and instead I plucked a Peavey Bandit 112 from ebay for £175.00 inc P&P. Like I said I am no expert, but from what I have read this should be sufficient for me.
One last thing as I have the RG270 is this worth changing the standard pickup's for EMG jobbies? would this also make a big difference as I like them and they look cool but I am quite happy with the standard one's. I was only thinking of jazzing up me standard RG so I thought I would ask even though it's off topic.
Thanks again for all the response..

who's the stupid loser? sure as hell aint bls... we make fun of you for what you say because what you say is stupid....
not all tube amps are great and not all s.s. amps are shite..... it just so happens that more of the better amps out there are tube... s.s. amps have completely different characteristics than tube amps.... tube amps are also more expensive to make... hence s.s. amps usuall cost less because they're easier and cheaper to build... but even top notch s.s. stuff can get pricey..... after awhile, everybody is used to hearing tube amps because most mainstream people use them... and that's often what gives people opinions on tone they like....

hah, I'de never expect to read that here
I'm just happy we have a decent gear forum, its one of the best running subforums on metaltabs, and with people that actually know what the fuck they are talking about, on other forums people only bitch at each other for having different tastes in tone.
or they just talk shit. either way, its fucked.

true dat.....
anybody been to tabcrawler.com's forums?
holy sh*t! kids like dimmudude all over the place talking about mad stupid shit....
www.guitargeek.com's forums are pretty good.... all around.
but metaltabs is for high gain metal-ish people, which is cool...
i mainly just post in the gear section here anyways.... i do drum, bass, vox, guiar, ect... but i could dicuss gear forever.
