it's not stupid at all, in fact it's smart... when you listen to bands you like, you decide you like their sound and/or you want a similar sound, knowing how they acheive their sounds is very important. say if you love cannibal corpse's distortion, knowing that they use mesa's and crate's for their dist is a good way to find out what kind of amps you should be looking into. i frown upon people that just buy what ever because famous people use it. but if you love the way an amp sounds then you should get it.

I don't like mesas. I do like Pats tone but it gets kind of boring after a while. If I were to try to make my tone like Cannibal Corpse, It would be more like the guitar tone from Tomb of the Mutilated and Butchered at Birth.
Any one know what amps they used back then?

jack used to use an old school s.s. crate head... with some rack gear. recently he's been using the bv300.... to bad he's not in cannibal anymore, he was my fav.... but i'm not sure what other previous guitarist used to use..... i'm thinking maybe a marshall in there somewhere?

Dimmu uses Engl amps. Savage 120 and Powerball.

Dimmu guitarists use Jacksons, that's what I know...
