Nobody can tell you what you should like. And even then, the individual guitars in a brand and model seem to differ a bit from each other. Just go to all the guitar shops in your local area and try every guitar out thats in your price class. And then try some stuff thats more expensive, say, 600 bucks, because you might want to save some more cash to get an even better guitar. And one thing, don't go for looks. Because the guitar may look impressive at first, it will probably sound less than that (yes I mean B.C. Rich guitars)

BC Rich guitars definatly have the coolest shapes but the worst tone and quality unless you have a lot of money to spend on a good one. I would do what spikyhairz said and go to a guitar store and try out every guitar in your price range.

ltd guitars by esp are good guitars they have a great sound and are easy on the pocket I bought one 3yrs ago for about 350 a m250 with a locking tremolo system and seymore duncan p/ups that was great deal.

Schecter, very nice for the price. Personally my favorite, I don't own one yet, but next guitar I buy.

Seems like any guitar under $400 (or under $600 for that matter) has only so-so pickups. So if you're really poor and have a very limited amount of money, think about getting an okay guitar for not much money and saving $200 to replace the pickups. Why would you want a guitar that just sounds okay when for $200 more you could have one that crushes bone and tears flesh to bloody shreds?

Just make sure whatever guitar you get plays well. Then put in the pickups to improve the sound. Watch out for sucking trems.

I doubt you'd ever be able to find a new one, but my RG 370 dx plays better than anything else i've played. That was $382. But I also put Dimarzio into it, so thats about a $600 guitar after the pickups and the installation.

yeah schecters are awesome, the next guitar i get is gonna be a schecter c-1 classic, killer guitar, awesome fretboard inlays as well.

i own two squiers, an affinity tele and a stagemaster 7-string, and they play better than alot of high-end guitars that ive played, so a high price tag doesnt necessarily mean a better guitar.

just get some dodgy new kramers, some aint to bad, aria make some good cheap guitars and same with cort. Stay away from ltd's and bc riches and try ebay for some good deals.

Yeh the new kramers arent that bad at all, i playe don of their neck through models and was surprised. Just replace the pickups and put and origanal floy in their and your set. They must be giving the korean kids like tin foil as payment because they sell these kramers really cheap.
