bands, or professionals?

now i like dream theatre and all but c'mon didn't they go to school for this?? what i'm saying is i respect and like that type of music but it just lacks something raw that, lets say cob has to bring... anyone agree?? cause i love playing yngwie and angelo stuff but that music blows compared to cob, helloween, and all that remains to me.

I think (neo) classical music purveys juast as much, if not more emotion than metal, if done right.

perhaps but thats what metal is kinda at its finest. neo classical that is... when it gets to batio's level it gets pretty a-emotional imo.

I admire Dream Theatre for their amazing technicality and musicianship. In this age, not many bands out there can truly be called "musicians", however Dream Theatre are one of those bands. Each member is a fine musician and technically proficient at their chosen instrument. I respect them for this.

Having said that I do not like what they produce. I would not go out of my way to listen to their music and I would not pay to see them live or buy their albums. I have always believed that what I find so wrong about them is the fact that it always seems like they've been brought together because they're exceptional at what they play, not because they have some sort of passion for their music.

I have listened to their CDs on occassions and I come away thinking I've just heard an hour's wanking on instruments, not an hour of passionate and emotional songs.

Once again I agree with psycho. But I do like their music. Whenever we go to my friends house to practice and we wait around for all the members to get there we listen to dream theater. The one thing I like most about them more than their music is their words. They put out lyrics that just makes you think about stuff that you wish you had. Maybe its just at my age, I know most of you are teens and prefer sex over anything, but to me I just like the overall messae of their music.

i also agree with psycho... and corpse you bring up an interesting point as well... i am a guitarist. so i can appreciate it.... the message of bands for some reason i could care less about.. i do like this one song about not hitting your gf when your drunk... good message there but overall i would have to regard your intelligence as a person pretty highly to actually be moved by your ideals.. and bands making music their medium for politics and ideals is ok but i just don't need that to supplement or full fill my music.... theres this genre of music called "hardcore" and thats their mantra..... music with meaning... don't just buy the cd read the lyrics. now i'm ok with that but its like i read alot and have discussions with professors and therapists about life, religion and what not... i dont need some song to tell me about politics and stuff... am i making any sense? cause i had this convo with a "hardcore" kid and he didn't get what i'm saying...
