song suggestions...
i just started playing bass, not just started like a week ago or anything but a beginner none the less. i've played long enough to learn two songs, opeth-when & death-pull the plug. i got those two from my boyfriend, but i was wondering if anyone could suggest any songs that would be good for a begginer to learn. Even just songs that you think have a good bass in it and you like. if you can e-mail it to me i'm at katie@gothicunderworld.com. Thanks.

Welcome. You started with Death and Opeth? That's pretty crazy. I don't remember hearing anything difficult in Pull the Plug, but I haven't listened to that in a while. And I don't know if I've heard When but I think their bassist isn't very good, except when the emphasis is purely on the bass. Either way those are crazy for a beginner, or at least, I think they are. I can't think of any suggestions, I used to attempt (with no success) to play easier Megadeth songs when I first started.
And umm what does your name mean? de la mort is french for 'of death', but what is Étreinde?

I think it means something like "up arise from the dead" !
But I am not sure, I had only 5 years french in school!

I speak french quite fluently, and I can tell you it isn't that. Either the first word is a word I don't know because I have a bad frech vocabulary, or it isn't frech at all.
Not only are most AC/DC songs easy, most rock bands have simple bass. Give them a listen and see if there is anything you'd like to learn. Might I suggest some Judas Priest?

It's probably 'Étreinte de la mort", which means literally "grasp of death".
Old heavy metal is cool to play when you're a beginner. For example Iron Maiden, most of the stuff is not hard at all and sounds quite good.

well i agree no more french, but help this GUY out with HIS songs? thats wierd seeing that HE mentioned having a bofriend
not really a suggestion for your level as such, but something you can aspire for - download the clip for Primus - Tommy the Cat. or just listen to the song but dlod it to see this marvelous specticle being performed by the bass. also the new cannibal corpse cd came with a dvd- not sure if it was limited but its got a bit of shit on all the members. he really goes off his head.
alot of rock is really easy. White Zombie [NOT NU METAL - WHITE ZOMBIE NOT ROB ZOMBIE] has some really cool basslines and is just a wicked band all round. so does tool and they arent to hard either.

Here ya go, the first song I learned on bass. Its not hard at all, and its pretty well know so you may get some reactions. Play it birthday parties, baby showers, funerals, whatever
Enjoy!

Iron Maiden not hard? You must not remember what it is like being a beginner.
Yeah White Zombie is pretty cool, though I don't remember any basslines sticking out.
I find it funny that I just recently learned Black No. 1 because I was bored. He uses alot of distortion on his bass. I think it is cool, but that it's perhaps overdone at times. I really like that band though, that's probably the best suggestion for a beginner, even though she probably will never read the responses here...

Red hot chilli peppers, Rage against the machine, Guns n' roses, AC/DC...all pretty easy and sound good.
Schism by tool is pretty fun too!
