I actually learned a lot about guitar with guitar pro, such as scales and chords. Don't under estimate it, its a nifty little program.

i think
guitar pro seems to me to be somewhat complicated. however after overviewing the entire program i think it would be extremely helpful in learning more about music theory and time sig stuff. i don't read music but i've come to understand it better through tablature notation. guitar pro is a step up. you can do just about anything with it. i don't know if it's worth $60 though.

I learned some theory using powertab. When i first downloaded it, i was quite theory imparied and from learning the program, i've learned a lot.

I hate doing that, it sounds as bad as the actuall midi-guitars do.
[edit]
Anyway, I love the way power-tab archive seems to have ripped off mine, k13m's & stachio's "Statutory Ape" power tab, just with added key notes.....grrrr....nice of them that.

You can't blame the PTA for uploading rip offs or stolen tabs (though we don't get many reports about such cases)... we just can't check all the powertab sites and go through all tabs before we upload one to our archive...
So, it's up to you, the original author, to contact us and tell us about your suspicion... that's the only way we can react to stealing ptbs. Plus, I would recommend you to contact the "author" of the PTA version and face him with your suspicion...
Anyway, I'll discuss that with the other admins as I, too, think that both tabs are quite similar...

I was just screwing with PT and saw 8va, 15va and loco under artificial harmonics. What do these mean and how do you do it?

Those are for when you have series of notes on the high e-string above the 12th fret. If you notice the notes stick up way above the staff and can make it confusing when sight reading. When you add 8va's it brings them down and makes it easier to read. It's purely cosmetic.

Are you sure about that because I tried this:
on the high e-string i had a series of 3 whole notes on the 15th fret. I had each of them be an artificial harmonic, but one was 'loco', '8va' and 15ma'. They all sounded different.

Ahhh shit, I explained the wrong thing. I was talking about the 8va's down the bottom of the screen.
Those 8va's and stuff in the Artficial Harmonics box are for different AH pitches.

I know how to do AH, but how would I pull off different pitches of the same AH, as heard in PT???

Go through the letter's and listen to them all until you've got the pitch you desire. Don't forget you've got sharps and flats in there too.

Thanks for the info, but I meant in real life, how would I play different pitches for an AH for the same note?

Ohhhh ok lol. Well, hitting the string in different places is what gives you different pitches. It's really just a matter of finding the sweet spots on your guitar and hitting them the right way each time.
