Old In Flames vs. New In Flames
Don't get me wrong these guys kick ass but im starting to question In Flames' ability to produce good music for the music anymore. Now on albums like Colony and Whoracle, In Flames has some of the best and most well written songs i've heard, save for Unleashed and Children of Bodom. When i first got Reroute to Remain I started having second thoughts about the dedication of this band to metal and how they started putting together songs that sound the same and don't have much of the same in your face feelings that the old In Flames seemed to excel at. I forget which CD it was on but In Flames wrote a song called Episode 666 and they never seemed like a death metal band or satanic in anyway. Many of the guys I know who don't appreciate metal listen to the new stuff. What has happened to In Flames? Are these guys posers?

old IN Flames is the best bar-none, however like many bands who have been around for so long, they want to change it up so as to not get bored i guess...you can argue they're changing just to get into the mainstream or whatever, but its most likely that they need a change.

When ever they are asked why they dont write shit like on TJR they say something to the effect of "Why the fuck would we want to write the same shit over and over for 13 years"

Yeah, it feels kind of sad to hear people in school saying "I was probably the first one here to listen to In Flames" and the silly little girl (no, not all girls are "little silly" ones, but this chick is) has probably (she does AFAIK ot listen to any other metallish music) only heard their 2 latest ablums (of which I dislike the latter the least).

bullshit. look at Dark Tranquillity: Damage Done has nothing to with Skydancer but still, they managed to evolve their melodic death style into something more modern (in Projector) without losing quality.
In Flames just sold out. they could still "write the same shit" and sound original. they just dont want to. why? money and exposure, i'll assume.

I like old-In Flames much more. I don't like the new material at all but I think its good that they are experimenting and what not. I'd rather have them do that than reproduce an older album 5 times like to many other bands do.

Dark Tranquility did manage to pull that off rather brilliantly, i dont think, however, that In Flames has sold out yet...they could still bring their original style back and recreate the old. but that is up to them and i hope they dont sell us out because if they do then it will be a sad to bury another once good metal band.

I dont thik they will bring thier old style back, they are way too far, Three alright albums and two shitty ones later, I think It would take as couple years to write their old shit again.

Old In flames, without question, is amazing. I love lunar strain and jester race. But as so many people hate RTR, I must admit that i like a few songs on that album! I like cloud connected, egonomic, minus, and trigger. I dont like any other songs on that album though. I will say that they have changed for the worse. Stand ablaze is my favorite song they wrote, and thats back with Sub. so obviously i like the old stuff more. I just hope they dont get worse and worse. They have already become bad enough, and i will not buy anymore of their releases, but i just hope, for thier sake!, that they dont get worse. Because what they have done in the past should not be disregarded simply because they now create crap. Does that make sense? Im drunk so excuse me. ugh

Interview with Anders
H: The Quiet Place has quite a lot of keyboard sounds and clean vocals – some older fans have already complained about the lack of death-metallic sounds and the increase of synthies – what would you answer them?
A: Uh, they should go and buy another album, you can't record an album using the same things again and again. We don't mind, but we need to to something new, we have to decide what it's best and if people don't like it, we can’t do anything about it.
H: I even know some people who claim that you changed your style just to reach a wider audience!
A: No, that's bullshit! We didn't change the sound that much, it's just a progression that started and we go on with it. You can't compose songs just to please people, no way.
H: Yeah, I even like your newer albums more than the old ones.
A: Great to hear! (laughs) See, you like it and we reached something.
H: Could you ever imagine to record an album on which you'll go back to the roots?
A: Why? We have all the roots with us, why do we have to go back to the roots? If you’re a band and you say "Ah, we need to go back to the roots", then you lost something along the way, there’s no point. We exist for ten years now and we can't write the same songs again and we don't want to do.
There was another interview with Anders I think and when asked why they didnt play as much of their old shit he replyed with something like "We were young then we had to have every little detail perfect and playing it live it would sound like shit" but I cant find it now.
And, Dark Tranquillity? ahahahaha the only thing good thats happened to dt in the past 4 years is they got their logo in that Rainbow6 3 game on xbox.

"it's just a progression that started and we go on with it"
its kinda funny that playing less technical music is considered progression...

haha yea father death, well if they say the are "progessing" then they are headed towards a mainstream crowd and i wont have that. But im not 2 sure why that is, why metal fans perfer thier music to be underground, thats how i like it but im still kinda wondering why...

I supposed it can be considered as progression into the mainstream which is a good thing for them and a bad thing for fans of their older material. I agree though, I don't see a dumbing-down of the music as a progression but as a regression.

any style that reaches mainstream get's ruined.
it's very simple. imagine that Nile became mainstream. videos on MTV, main-stage on Ozzfest.
now, hundreds of talentless kids would think "rad!!! i'm going to do that!!!"
and there you go, in a blink of an eye you would have hundreds of Nile clone with a difference: they would suck.

Its no so much the fact of once they reach mainstream, they start to sound like shit. Once they reach it and see everyone goiong wild for their newer stuff, The want to create a new album right away, and then they keep rushing the albums, and when they dont hear the track as "filled" they add keyboards, and they do it just to get the album out and either make money or to go on tour.

ass, dont post something about a band that you dont even like any of it. The title says Old In Flames VS. New In Flames. Nowhere in there does it say No In Flames.

I like In Flames both new and old...just for different reasons. I like their kick ass music in the old songs but I like the vocals a lot more in the new. I think its just that they wanted to try something new and I can see why Anders wants to sing clean as well. Even though I like their new stuff, If I had to pick Id want the old in flames back.
