Peavey Supreme XL vs. Randall RH 100
Yes. It's again a new thread about amps. But i didn't want to proceed an old thread and finally get answers to old posts.
I need an amp. It has to be at the lower price range.
I just need the distorted sound. I think our band won't ever play anything clean. That's not bad, i think.
So i looked for some amps for about 500€ and read already some reviews at www.harmony-central.com . To many reviews for me, but for these two amps mostly good reviews.
Other possibilities would have been:
- Line 6 Spider II Head, but just 2x75W, so i need two cabinets and i definately do not need bilions of effects.
- Marshall MG100HDFX, but bad reviews.
Perhaps one of these Hughes&Kettner half stacks would be ok, too. The WARP7 or the Vortex.
If anyone had good experiences with the Marshall, the Line6 or the Hughes&Kettner, let me know.
Now let's talk about the Peavey and the Randall. I hope, i'll find a shop with both of them, so i can play them by myself. But i need some adviece. Has anyone played with these heads? I want to know many pros and contras. How's the sound? Good for (Death) Metal or not? Is the EQ ok? Or to much highs or to "muffy". Loud enough for stage and a band with a loud drummer? Do you have many problems with feedback? What about background-noises? With which cabinet do you play it? Which cabinet do you recommened for that amp? ....
I want to know everything.

sovtek mig series.... they're pretty much exact clones of the jcm 800 heads except they're set up for 6l6 powertubes instead of el34s(but that can be changed if you really want el34s).
one channel, all tube, great tone... buy one, crank the hell out of it and be amazed by they awsome distortion...
they go for wwwaayy cheap.. like under $500 american.

The peavy supream is ok, but if all you want is distortion, then it will do for the cash you want to spend, I was at the music store today, but i didn't try it, just the JCM 2000 head, on a RG370 Ibenez (BTW is this a good RG or not?), but some guy i know is going to buy the supream, and he LOVES IT, but hes taste in gear in not the best, but hes dad knows his stuff, and he said it was good, so I would trust him.
I hope this helps some.

Supreme XL
Damn, the XL kicks ass for a less-than-500$ solid-state... Really nice work. But I'm a bit concerned of the cab? I mean, if I should buy this motherfucker, should I stick with Peavey's basic XXL412 or pay about 300 more for like a Marshall 1960 or something... See I haven't tried these yet, just curious... Figuring out what the total cost would be like... So anyone who's played these, comments please?
Thanks

Sovteks are really hard to find, i ve been searchin for them ever since i posted a thread about them a while back. But then again i do live in england. Anyways just go get ureself a Marshall Valvestate 8100 head and a 1960 cab off ebay or somet. I keep sayin this cos it really is the most original and unusual sounding cheap amp you can get and it has three channels, a clean and two overdrives just in case u do wanna play some clean. Check it out

not a good RG.
but anyways, the Sovteks are available here, by truckloads. don't know why.. MiG60/100's heads all around!
I really liked the Randall rh100G3, I think its the best ss top for its cash. seriously, go and try it, its not that bad for a non-tube amp. even though solid state is the axis of fucking evil.

it depends on the solid state...
tube amps are godly in the way they can function after a nuclear attack(if it wasnt destroyed of course)... and with bush running the u.s. that might come in handy...

i would of thought a solid state would be more likely to function after a nuclear attack lol

A good solid state amp pales in comparison to a good tube amp, with that said I own a peavy XXL. I bought it cheap to tide me over while saving up for a better amp, but when tweaked it can put out some decent sounds, but its one of those things where its never just how you want it. The sound that is.

im think about getting a Supreme XL, and i love it. ive played on it for hours, i like the tone. my thing is though, what cab should i get? i have $850 american to spend, which would work out perfectly if i bought the peavey cab, but its there something else better i should get? feel free to recommend better heads too, im not dead set on the peavey. like i said, ive got $850 saved

$850 is a good amount, you can easily get a 5150 head and a good cab for that much.
Or a nice rack setup. Search around a bit, theirs atleast 3 threads with recommendations for people in your situation.

Used of course.
Check out Ebay. You can get 5150 cabs for cheap too, and they acually sound good matched up with the 5150 head. But so do Marshall 1960 cabs (In Flames uses those cabs with their 5150's) check out avatar cabs too. http://www.avatarspeakers.com/
just make sure you like the 5150, it isent for everyone.

I have a Peavey XL supreme, and ill give it a 5.5 (or 6)/10.
Its ok for a cheap SS amp, and for distortion it lacks.

I've been looking at a new Randall G2 with a new Randall cabinet (4x12) for £480 ($720 approx), is this a good deal? I need a decent head and cab for £500 or less and the G2 is all my local guitar shop has in atm besides a Titan used by Dimebag himself but that's around £680 on it's own. Though if I can i'm going to get a Marshall 8100.
