Sliding pinch?
This should probably be in that official thread, but no body answers there. so im posting it here.
I'm not sure if anyone has seen/heard the Live version of Silent Night Bodom Night in tokyo.
But at ... 0:33 .. Alexi Lahiho, being the god he is, does what sounds to me like a sliding pick squeal. I'm not great a pick squeals but when i do get them to sound i can't just slide my hand down the fret board like he did. How do you do this?

well back to your question: Maybe he plays the "root note" as a pinch harmonic, then slides it to what ever note he ends at...

you pinch a note, lets say on the 5th fret then slide to the 9th fret

Hmm... When he does that, he uses the whammy bar to raise or lower the pitch. He usually does that and lowers... listen to 'Hate Me' before the 2nd solo for an example. (it's all I can think of lol) Either that or he just bends the note to make it higher...

Well no, i looked, and in the video he slides from like 19 to 3 to 5 again and it goes like.. up down up... and it sounds totally awesome... i'm trying to rip the clip out and upload it but it's in ASF and adobe premiere won't open it.

K i know what youre talking about. He just plucks the string and makes it play the natural harmonics on that fret then lowers the pitch using the whammy bar, his hand moving up n down the neck is just what some people do when they arent playing any notes.

Hmm what a bastard... i can't tell perfectly but he definetly does reach for his whammy bar... im guessing he has a floating tremolo... but he slides his hands in time.. i guess just for effect.
Thank you for clarifying that.

Hmmm a pinch sweep thing. Im gonna try that. I dont think it will be that amazingly cool.
Try doing pinch harmonic tremelo picking, it sounds kinda cool.

For the down stroke, you would use your thumb to get the PH and for the up stroke, you would use your middle fingure. Its kinda hard but its cool.

hmmm.... I dont think I've seen something like that. Ive seen a guy... Michael Angelo to be exact, do a sweep, and when he got to the high e, he taps on one of the frets at like the 26th fret. yup, 26th fret. Hes got an axe that has like 32 frets on it. its crazy... hes crazy... if you have kazaa, download the vid clip 'speed kills' by him. it rocks ass

I've never thought about doing a pinched sweep but I can do a tapped sweep. I posted it with an explaination in the official sweeps/scales thread (the 90th post or something). I think it sounds really cool.

Yes its incredible, not all that hard but its pretty damn brilliant. He also does this other tapping thing on the song "no boundaries" (studio version of speed kills) where he does a tapping arpeggio. He taps on every single string and goes up and down and its one of the coolest things i've ever heard. Its near the end of the song and it sounds sooooo cool.
