what record company would you want to sign to if you had a good band?

well it depends on what your band is playing, and what they want for their music.
if your band is from mars and plays purposely obscure black metal then your likely to get onto a really tiny label. (eg, astrofaes are from mars, and their lable has 4 bands on it i think and they are all from mars)
if you want exposure, you would want to get your band signed to a big european label: like earache, peaceville, music for nations, or nuclear blast.
then again im not THAT big on record companies meself actually.

I'd go to Unique Leader to begin with and then when I become an international death metal star (yeah right...) it would be cool to go to either Relapse or Earache. It doesn't really matter which label you go to, if you play extreme music you're not going to make millions so I'd choose the label that would offer me the musical freedom to do what I want.

The obvious choice would be Earache, Relapse, Metal Blade.. one the bigger ones, as they pay for you to tour, record, for the artwork on the album, etc etc.
The more "underground" labels, press say.. 3000 copies of your CD, if all goes well, they re-press. BUT. You don't usually get paid for any of that stuff on these smaller labels, except for maybe on Unique Leader (owned by Deeds of Flesh members, they'd have to have some money) or Forever Underground.
But still, any of these labels would give you MASSIVE exposure in the underground scene: Unique Leader, Goregiastic, Brutal Bands, No Escape, Razorback, Unmatched Brutality, Xtreem, Macabre Mementos, United Guttural, Forever Underground.. I couldn't deicide which.

I'd probly go with metal blade, peaceville or earache. Mainly because they look after the bands they sign. Not like roadrunner or shit like that

as few guys above mentioned that, It depends on which style of music do you play. If my band would be good death metal band i would go to the record company which would give me the best conditions so I cannot say which one I would choose.
