Mic question? mic EQ for good yelling-growling

A forumer posed this question and I thought I'd ask you metalheads since you're more in tune with this style. Thanks a bunch!

" i need some advice on some mic settings...yelling and whatever...
i just need to know Eqo for something along the lines of "the black DAhlia Murder" or a Hatebreed type mic settings...thanks"

Grimm:I could read your mind but its in font size .5
Amadeus:Oh, and was there a cesserole (never mind spelling) involved?
Paddy:the fact that you didn't end up on a kids show makes me question my atheism

Mic settings have a lot to do with the room the P.A is set up in, diferent frequencys take off in diferent rooms... its all trial and error really.. if you have a good P.A. you should have much of a problem.

more important is to have the right mic!

some mics just sound like crap and won't sound deep at all, like most condenser mics. Shure SM58's allways do the trick and are the mostly used mics around the globe, can't go wrong there, no condenser so it isnt feedback sensitive and shit like that!

when I use an sm58, I boost the lows and the highs and I turn out some of the mids, kinda like what most people do to their guitar eq's, but it has the same effect on a pa, more bottom and less annoying mids..

well, in my PA we have a pair of 18" subs, so i kinda turn the lows down more than i used to because they add so much power and depth to the PA. but for recording i have to turn the lows up a little.
our vocalist uses a shure sm58 and for back up vocals we use a pair of shure rs25's. shure mics are great, i highly recommend them.

I use a peavey mic and a regular old bass amp... and i mean old, its from the 70s and has no Mid eq on it lol. Anyway, I use that and I can do Contagion by the Black Dahlia Murder easy with no EQ boost or volume or anything, growls and snarls.. or screams or whatever you wanna call them. It's all about the person using the mic as well as the amplification being used.

I'd like you people to help me on mics ! Our vocalist plans on buying one and he knows nothing about them. Is paying a lot of $$$ important, or can he just find a normal mic if he's got a good amp ? And what are some of the best mics around for death metal ? Thanks.

sm58 is pretty much the standard it seems, they go for under $100 easy... or if your on a budget and you need more than one, www.pssl.com has a bunch of buy one get on free, or in some cases buy one get two free sales.....
