Hmmm, it seems like a good idea, but I'm not sure it will catch on. I certainly wouldn't have a use for one.

the best sounds come from magnetic pickups run trough traditional amps and i guess this won't change for ages. u cee it with the digital recording ... all thoight "OMFG WOOOW THIS WILL CHANGE THE WORLD" .... and now i just laugh about people who record without mics ........ it just sounds awfull even if u push the guitar to a certian sound using 1500 effects ure even not able to play live with.

But from what I gather, this guitar will allow you to do that stuff in a live setting. I don't see much of a market for it though.

It's the sound quality, why wouldn't it catch on? Analog is noisy, period. This not only gets rid of the analog noise, which guitarists today hate and professionals spend all kinds of money on special cables etc. to attemmpt to get rid of that analog hum, and it still doesn't do as good of a job as these guitars. Not to mention the recording abilities and other cool abilities, like distorting only certain strings etc. I dunno, we'll have to wait and see, seems to me though that this is an amazing advancement.

Seems like something cool that could be used for the future, but yeah, who's really got money now these days to spend such an attire?
I could buy a decent car for that value.lol..
Either way, the string technology is pretty good, as well as the recording feature. For now though, I would just stick to modern technology.

I agree, but professionals will be using them I guarantee it. Especially those who are sponsored by Gibson.
Another really cool thing here:
http://www.selftuning.com/index1.html
Imagine a combo of the two and what it would cost. 10 grand for a guitar anyone? Would be a sweet guitar though.

hell yea, that guitar seems pretty cool and wouldnt be at all bad to get rid of shitty hum. But i would just wonder whether it would be worth payin all that money when the chip inside could just as easily fuck up. Think microsoft

It's like digital solid state amps and analog tube amps. Everyone thought that the digital amps would herald a new era for amplification but that never happened, in fact most metal guitarists (from reading these boards) prefer tube amps.
I think it is a good idea, but I have a feeling that it will be a passing fad and people will return to their old rig before too long.

I think it's a pretty damn cool idea, but i don't think it's going to replace true analog equipment. I much prefer tubes and micing amps to record (though I think it's cool sometimes to just plug into the board during some live applications, because having an amp blasting behind you all the time can be a pain). I think this guitar can be cool, with a certain boost in versatility, but if i got one i'd only use it for recording purposes and goofing around. I do want one someday.

Sounds interesting, I'd love to get my hands onto one. And for people that complain that it's "un-orginal" or anything along those lines, remeber, the electric gutiar was once considered "un-original."
I doubt they will replace the standard electric guitar though. Moreover becasue of the price.

The price will come down as the demand goes up. Like the article said, it only takes one badass to come along and play something on one that cannot be played on any other type of guitar.

Fuck that, I prefer my humbuckers. I don't need a friggin computer chip telling me how its going to sound. I figure that out myself.

Well well, I always thought they'd make a digital guitar, but not like this. I thought it'd be more of a synth in the shape of a guitar that played discrete notes or something lol. But this thing from what I read is pretty much the same as a normal guitar, letting you do all that stuff like harmonics, bends and shit...and you can still run it through a tube amp, can't you? Like it or not, I think all the fucking gimp bizkit digi-generation are going to make this guitar assimilated into the mainstream one day. Plus people will be probably be trying to play tabs of songs that only this guitar can achieve. We shouldn't judge until we hear a sample, or play one, I guess...

Yes, exactly, you'll be able to run it through a tube amp, it will just sound cleaner. Basically since the sound is so much cleaner the only thing this will really do is make it stand out all that much more if you suck. It's funny how so many people, just like back when the first electrics showed up, are so quick to condemn. It's like old people lecturing young people about how they used to walk to school uphill both ways, and godammit they LIKED it.

I couldn't read the original article, but hasn't Line 6 had the Variax range/model for a while?
I haven't really heard of that revolutionizing anything.
