Thumbs up Best pickups for playing Death Metal?

I own a B.C. Rich Ironbird and has two Select EMG pickups on it.
I was wondering if there's any better pickup I could get to achieve a better sound. I heard EMG-81 are good for Death Metal.
Any reccommendations please? Thanks a lot!

you pretty much said it yourself... emg 81's are good for death metal.
But if you dont want to have a guitar thats only for death metal, get a emg 60 in the neck position as well

EMGs and a peavey 5150 stack is the default for most metal bands

Talking

I just realized I could have asked that question in the "Gear Talk" section, but thanks a lot for replying anyway!
Uhm, yeah at the moment I'm playing/recording Death Metal so I need a guitar that's only for Death Metal.
I use an old Zoom 3030 (they stopped making now) and I'm quite happy with the sound I got. I had been trying the different settings for years before I got this sound.
So basically EMG-81s and 85s are most commonly used/talked about... Does anyone know what the difference (in sound) between them is?

the 81 is trebly, often used in bridge position
85 is bassy, often in the neck position

You're probably right. My Select EMG pickups are in those positions too.

I like my guitar sound as heavy as possible without sacrificing clarity by using too much bass. I'll leave the bass for the bass player

I take it that nobody knows of the existence of the Dimarzio x2n. Don't forget kiddies, Chuck(R.I.P dude) used 'em

personal taste. dimebuckers are okay, really high pitched sounding though, and the invaders sound fuckin mean, but lack in clarity. the x2n is alot like the dime bucker with the two pole setup, but it sounds much more brutal like the invader. better all around "tone" imo.

but active emgs should do great for what you want.
81's should only be bridge imo
85's sound good as neck or bridge pickups imo, they have more of a deep low end sound compared to the 81.
and 60's are pretty much neck only pickups imo.

huh? dimebuckers? i don like em at all. they sound muddy. i'd never buy signature gear cuz u pay 30-40% in addition to the prize of non-signature gear.

sh-13 are dimebuckers. sh-10 is the full shred series and sh-8 the invaders. maybe u mixed something up here.

U can use any pickups for death metal, but i'd mostly suggest the active livewire SD for the bridge, its sweet ass. or an invader .

I really dont like Dimarzio's, from the ones i tryed they just sounded fucking bollocks, but i aint tryed the x2n so i aint too sure bout that.

Well the name sounds crazy but they're supposed to be crazy... See for yourself:

Probably nice metalbuckers besides EMGs would also be Gibson Tony Iommis...

so it's practically like gibson's version of an invader? looks pretty cool, but i'm a burstbuckers kinda guy.

i don't see how tom can get so hooked up on gear and then get such basic tone......

eh, for bubble gum punk, i guess they're alright... i'd definately pay $45 go to one of there shows, we're talking like major 14 year old hotties everywhere....

but yeah, tom just has way awsome gear yet his sound is so simple it could be acheived through a cheap s.s. halfstack.... but since they're so famous brands like mesa, fender, gibson, ect. all want them to play their equipment.
