how to pick these songs?
I am a beginner but one question I still have... I've taught myself how to finger and pick all of the basic cords, but when I play tabs I never know how to pick them... for example your supposed to know by hearing the song if your supposed to play each note a certain number of times, one string at a time, etc.
for example, I can play through this, but how exactly should I play this http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/s...Religion.chopro
Im having trouble explaining, so hopefully someone will understand and come to my rescue... thanks.

yeah thats not really a tab since all it shows is the chords...basically for that you have to figure out the rhythm yourself.
real tabs have everything written out note for note

You did'nt choose the easiest song to begin with. As Father Death said, you must figure out the pattern for yourself. Usually, acoustical songs follow the same 4-5 basic patterns but the pattern on this song is a combination of different patterns. When I was in High school, my music teacher showed us the simplest of pattern which is: down down up, up down up. You should try to learn a song with this pattern just to begin with (I think 80% of acoustic players use that pattern, it's so common). I don't know if you already knew all that technical shit, I'm just trying to help.

thanks guys...
hmm, the thing is a lot of songs have unique strumming styles, and I don't know how to figure that out from tabs (even from simple tabs which show where you put your fingers for each time).
I have no problem reading that type of tab instead of the traditional, since I know most of those cords already, but I just can never figure out how many beats and how to strum it for ANY tab song.. I must be missing something... hmm
p.s. I'm playing on an electric, not acustic, so it doesn't really fit for all the songs I play, but *oh well*
edit: does any know a really fun, fairly easy beginner song for an electric guitar and a link to tabs for it? I'd like to try something cool.. thanks

I have badly express myself (English is my secondary language). When I said acoustic songs, I ment songs with regular chords instead of powerchords. By the way, I have found a great site to learn some strumming patterns: http://www.people.fas.harvard.edu/~...o/strumming.htm
About the rythm in the tabs, it's totally normal to have a hard time figure them out. Tabs are good to identify which notes to play, but the rythm is mostly revealed by listening to the song. I've been playing for 12-13 years now and I also have a hard time to figure out the rythm. If you are missing something... I'm missing something too.
I can't really suggest a easy song to learn, actually there's tons of it. I don't really know what you listen to. I advice you to pick a song that you know well, a song that you listen to often and that seem playable. The fist songs that I've learn were from Black Sabbath. It's a good start, if you like them.
