Need help buying a cheap amp.
Let me first start off by stating that I don't know crap about amps, but I do know that I want something loud (Although pretty quiet for late night practice), oriented towards death/speed metal, and professional looking. Right now I'm using a 15W Danelectro amp, and I don't really like it, as I'm not into playing in coffeeshops.
As of now, I have about 200 bucks. If I wait a month or so, I should be able to whip up 200 more, but I don't want to wait unless I have to. Can anyone recommend something to an amplification newbie? I would appreciate it.

get a used peavey bandit 112, its a combo which is plenty loud but its not super big so you can haul it around and play it at home too. enough for practise if you're not a super-loud band.
I don't know, but they go for cheap used, its probably one of the best buys IMO, I got one for at home and it doesn't sound too bad for its price either.

if you only have $200-$400 you'll probably be looking at used combos. i'd suggest looking into a 1x12,2x12, or 2x10 combo from crate, peavy, line 6,maybe even marshall(mgs ).

Yeh the bandit 112 would be a good choice. Go try one out and see what you think.

i don't like 2x10 combos for death/speed. i'd rather go for a 1x12 or 2x12 cuz they got the rock tone and u can still use it even when u start practising with a band.

I guess I just need something loud enough to be heard in a mid-sized bar. Would the Peavey Bandit be loud enough?

Avoid the 100 watt Rogue GSR. I bought it. And I regret it cuz it doesnt seem to belt out 100 watts. I turn it up all the way and it barely gets over the drums.

I agree !! 2x10 combo sucks for death/speed.

i dunno, i kinda like 10's, i've played 2x10 combos, that were only 'ok' because they were line 6, and ibanez amps...... but i've played old marshall 4x10 and 8x10 guitar cabs, and they're pretty sweet, not as much lows as twelves, but a quicker response for tighter distortion that cuts through the mix, great for lead/shred stuff, but if you want powerful/chunky lows then 12's are more up your alley.

You know what, I think I would rather buy a bass amp that a guitar can be played through, since I play both bass and guitar. Can anyone recommend a good half stack or combo?

i'd say not to, most guitar speakers cant handle basses very well, and bass speakers will sound like garbage for distorted guitars.

Pfft, B52's are the only SS amps i can stand. Only because the price justifies the average sound that a SS produces.

I got the b-52 Stealth Series 100w all tube amp head. Im kinda disapointed. The gain is so wimpy on it that I ended up using my Mt-2 through the clean channel. That actualy sounds very nice with it but its pointless to use a dist. pedal on a tube amp that should have good dist. by itself. I dont know I'm pretty sure the tubes in there are really shitty. Maybe better tubes will help.

Gloominati, you should try Line 6 Spider II and Crate GX/GLX.

i like the marshall mg series, solidstate but they have a good distortion tone, very cheap too
definately look into them
do you have a guitar center/mars music/ local shop around you? if you ask the people there to try some different stuff out

i think the valvestate(avt) marshall amps and the mgs sound pretty good at low volumes... but when you crank them the sound is chaotic(not in a good way) it just isnt focused at all, a compressor and a graphic eq would help alot if you ended up getting one.

Oh mine can top it, but it also adds more shittiness to the sound now. I think it may be the pedal, i dont know.

id say wait a little bit longer until you can actually afford a pretty decent amp and something that youll be happy w/ for a good while. if youre willing to wait and save, $600-900 will buy you a used mesa/boogie mark series combo.

shut up, your retarded.
The amount of speakers dont decided what type of music the amp is best suited for.

why a 1x12?
the # of speakers always matters.....
and you lots me with the last sentence about having more heads when you have cabs in combos?
seriously, take your time typing so people can understand what you're saying.

I use a randall RG100SC and it works quite well, sounds could be better, but I paid $400 canadian for it, so what can ya do? its clean channel isnt all the best, but it does have an alright gain channel, its loud enough to jam with, and a headphone jack as well for playing late at night...
