Rack Problem....

I've got a Line 6 Pod Pro, a Yamaha GEP50 and a Rat Distortion pedal running into a Peavey Classic 50/50 power amp out to a TubeWorks 4x12. My Problem is that after I added the rat, I only crank up the POD's output volume to about 30% before everything sounds bogged out and really shitty. I've tried playing around with the volumes of everything, and how its hooked up, but I can still only turn the output to 30%
the way its all hooked up now is I've got the GEP50 plugged into the Pod's effects loop and the Pod's output going into the rat, and the rat into the power amp. The GEP50 is purely there for mod pitches only. The Pod uses the Insane amp setting with the gain turned to about 40%. The rat is running about 25% gain, with the out all the way up (the volume doesnt effect the problem I have). The poweramp I can have at any volume level and the Bogged out sound will occur if I turn the Pod's output up too much

Any ideas on what I should do? I love the sound I'm getting but it wont get loud enough to play live with.

if u have to units with distortion the gain will be increased rapidly even if u turn on one just abit. ure muddy sound occurs cuz u have too much gain on the pod unit. try to decrease the gain of the pod an try to add the gain on the rat. if i got u right this will solve ure problem.

i'm not to sure what you're talking about, but i know a peavey 50/50 tube poweramp pushing any decent 4x12 should work great provide your preamp is good, and a pod should work just fine even with a rat.
just try not to layer distortions over each other, it might sound cool at low volumes, but when you start to turn it up you will get a mess of noise, try using one distortion source at a time, like, set the amp/dist mode on the pod just direct so you can be using just the rat for distortion, or turn bypass the rat and use the pod's dist... you might also try putting the rat in front of the pod instead and see how that works.
i personally think the only time two layered sources of o.d. are good is during solos.

Thats what I am doing is layering the distortions, and its screwing up at high volumes like you said. It justy sounds so good together though. The Rat gives the POD the presence and Precise crunch that its lacks.

just get a descent preamp

I have a peavey 50/50 too. running a marshall 1960 cab and powering it with an Engl preamp. I don't like digital stuff.

use different settings for high volumes, no matter what your rig is, it will always sound different when you go from 1 to 10 on the volume....
but it obviously doesnt "sound so good together" because you're getting a pussy fart sound from your amp every time you play something.
