ive been playin a couple of years now, and im ready to move off of my 15w marshall... i get to gether with a drummer and a bass player every couple of weeks and i hate that i can barely hear myself playing though my marshall and metal zone, my friends say its surprising that i can hear myself at all. so neways, im looking to spend about 500-750 american for a half stack. from what ive seen im leaning towards a carvin sx300 if uve heard of it, but from a few reviews ive read it gets really noisy. i took a look at the mg100 but im guessing u guys are gonna call it shit. but really, ur probably gonna tell me all i can get is shit for that amount of money. i dont really wanna buy used because im afriad it would come back to haunt me later. thx for the help.

if you wanna buy a new halfstack, a friend of mine uses a Hughes & Kettner warp 7, which ain't half bad for the money (sounds way better then those shit MG-series IMO) I don't know about the carvin.. we don't have those over here.
the warp 7 has the nu-metal thing written all over it, though you can get really descent sounds out of it, the image of that amp is just fucked. but if you don't care about that, go ahead and try it, its about the tone anyways, not the image. its also in your price range, over here its about 700.

Gte a used 5150. It wont take a shit on you. Peavy makes good quality stuff. But if you insist on buyign new... then you'll end up with a solid state half stack for sure. I suggest going to guitar center and trying some b-52's. You cna get a half stack for 600. I still think you shouldn't rule out buying used, its the only way you can get a good half stack for the amouint you want, I got my 5150 half stack for around that price.

what do u think if i got like a xxl head, and put it on a cheap crate cabinet, that would come out to like 750 after the foot switch.

i'm all about used gear, it becomes addicting to save so much money.... used crate blue voodoo heads go for about $300-$500 used, but $800 new....
5150(II)'s go for about $350-$600 used, while new ones go for like $900-$1,000.
mesa rectos go for like $600-$1,000 used, but like $1,300-$1,700 new.
and cabs usually go for about %40-%65 of what they go for new.
you can easily snag a decent tube 2x12 combo of even a half stack for about $500-$750.... hell, my buddy is selling a fairly new blue voodoo half stack for like $850, head & cab package...thats way cheap!
but if you do buy used, test everything first, make sure everything works good, make sure you like the tone and all that stuff too. just because its used doesnt mean somethings wrong with it. dusty, dirty,a slash in the tolex, or a missing decal can save you tons of cash. you should check out ebay, musicgoround and your other local used dealers. you can get a dream rig for way cheap.

otherwise you'll be saying goodby to the tube world and get stuck with a s.s. halfstack that will
"come back to haunt you".

if people have like 90% + "feedback", you should be fine, but i'd suggest going to a store and trying out the amps you are interested in, and then buying it where ever has the best price.

i'm helping my friend sell his amp, so if wanna buy a 120w tube crate blue voodoo head from my buddy i could hook you up, about $400 + shipping, this thing gets pretty mean and way loud, they go for like twice this new... just slap it on top of a decent 2x12 or 4x12 and you'd be set...... none of that last minute outbid crap like on ebay either ... he's trying to snag a more boutique-ish amp that will cost him alot more money so he needs to sell this.
