Store, go to one and try them out. Mind, use it and form an opinion. Money, use to buy based on opinion.

you'll have to figure out which one you like more, i like the 5150 II because it has separate eqs for each channel which helps your clean channel, but the tone of each one is a bit different.

5150, 5150 II, and Triple XXX are all pretty solid heads as far as Peavey goes... If you're gonna grab a 5150 try to get a used one that is in good condition (they sell for under half their original price, and the tone is pretty much the same as a new head).
Mesa stuff is a bit pricey and you can get relatively the same styled distortion from a peavey amp, and Marshall makes some pretty good amplification. I've heard nothing but good things about Line 6's new Vetta heads as well as their HD147 heads (which are supposed to be metal monsters, but I've not played one). ENGL also rules but I don't know anything about the pricing.
Best choice is to just go to a store and try out all the heads they have with your guitar on a 1960A cab because most of the amplification debate is just personal preference. The rest of it is just dialing a good tone which you can do with just about any head. Plus you have a really good cab so you have half the battle done already.

the triple x not only has great dist, but it has a suprisingly good clean channel as do most engl heads.
but that hd147 is a metal head all the way, my favorite line 6 hands down, although non of its emulations actually sound like the amps they're trying to imitate, but non the less it still sounds heavy as fuck in that cold digital way, and with 300w it has tonz of headroom so unlike most s.s. heads, you can play loud without the poweramp section distorting your preamp signal, because s.s. poweramps that clip sound like trash. and most people don't want to sound like trash.

The origanal Block Head 5150's sounds amazing, better than the new one and i hate the tone of the 5150II. Plus the block heads are the cheapest.

they actually all go for about the same price, and as far as which one is best, that's completely personal opinion. i love all of them, and they all sound relatively similar, but definately different at the same time.
