Bolt on necks
My guitars all have bolt on necks. I was just wondering how big of a disadvantage is it that a guitar has a bolt on neck. And the advantages of neck thru. All the neck thrus I've played have the back of the neck painted and that messes me up a lot. I dont like the feel.

Well, the main advantage of having a neckthru is a lot of sustain and better sound in general, but its quite pricy to have one, and your screwed if the neck needs re-adjustment, because thats out of the question
A bolt-on doesn't realy have any disadvantages except for some fewer sustain. If your the type that might drop his guitar on accident, you should stick to bolt-on's

Edromans a lying midget fucker, just ignore anything he says. A quality, solid bolt on neck will have slighty less sustain than a neck through but nothing you would easily notice. And a neck through gives you better access the the high frets, but ibanez and jackson both have those heeless bolt on's so thats not even an issue anymore. A bolt on will have more treble than a neck through, but than again nothing your gonna notice that much. If i blindfolded you and played a neck through, then a bolt on i doubt you or anyone else would have an easy time figureing out which ones which.

i prefer neck thrus as the sustain is a lot better and the feel is so nicer. Although from the neck thru guitars i've played, i've found they have thicker necks

On my main guitar, its a bolt on. I can still get to the higher frets easily. Sustain isn't a problem. My pickups have great sustain. Theres only one neck thru guitar I liked, it was a Schetcher (i dont know how to spell it) that was a nice guitar. Otherwise I dont like the paint on the back of the neck. The paint causes more friction so I cant slide my thumb on it as easy. I swear I cant even play relatively fast on those. IMO

well i got this shit that you spray on the back of ur neck and ur fretboard to make you slide better. doesn't work too good on ur fretboard though. fast fret is better, but it works really well to spray on the back of ur neck.

my ibanez has a bolt on but it also has a sculpted heel, giving me access to the high frets. it has descent sustain too.

Both of my Ibanez's are bolts on, but in general, from my experience, as long as you have a decent sound/etc, sustained notes/chords aren't a big deal.
