Jackson Kelly

I recently just bought a Jackson Kelly KE-3 for $450 USD brand new at a local music shop. I really like its body shape, look and feel. I am reletively new to the guitar world. I am at the point where you start to notice that your pickups and all are alot more important that you think when you first pick up a guitar. The question i have is about taking out the Duncan Designed from my new axe and replacing they with a good set. I am pretty sure I want to get a set of 81/85 EMG's if they fit, if not maybe an X2N or some real Seymours. This guitar doesn't have a tone control. so my question is, How expensive would it be to get a tone control added, and the pickups installed. I didn't clarify if this guitar has enough room to fit the battery for the EMG's, if anyone knows this that would help too. I am not going to do this myself. So how much do you think it would cost to add the tone knob and possibly the battery slot?

If your control cavity can fit a battery and a extra pot than go for it. But if your Kelly is anythign like my RR than it cant. Therefor emg's are out of the question unless you wanna route a battery caompartment in your guitar. As for the extra pot, you can always use a concentric pot which is just 2 pots stack on eachother.

Alright, i understand the EMG part.. I will have them take a look to see if it can be done.

For the tone knob, is it very hard to do? I was thinking i would have to drill a hole through my guitar and rewire it somehow.. How much do you think it would cost me to get the tone knob added on?

fuck man to add on a tone knob would be not much at all. just the price of the tone knob and maybe what, 30 mins labour? it wouldn't be hard thats for sure. ya, you would have to drill a hole, but man thats fuck all. and of corse you would have to wire it in after

Sweet, Thanks. I really never got into this part of the music world. Learning this stuff makes everything so much easier though.

Sweet, I like that idea better than drilling a hole into my guitar.

I don't know why but I like those shit standard pickups.

yeahyeah "once you had real Seymours or EMGs you'll know the difference" but still.

I can get brutal sounds anyway, pinch harmonics work (except thick E string but thats prolly my lack of technique), ... But after my amp purchase I'll be saving up for a new guitar anyhow
