Hey guys I'm trying to write an old school thrash song with a southern feel to it in the vein of Pantera but I'm having a tough time. Usually I'm pretty good with shit like this but lately I've been playing a lot of prog neo-classical shit and I think I've lost my thrashy edge. So far I have the intro:

I'd like to write a good thrashy riff for it but I'm having guitarist's block. If someone can help me out, give me some tips or something, I'd appreciate it greatly.

Tip: Don't ask others to write music for you. It won't be yours if you do, and not playing your own music is bullshit. Just wait until it comes to you.......i've had periods of writer's block that have lasted over 6 months, but i always get it back, and you will too.

If u are stomped and don't know what to write make a pause and try again tomorrow.Its absolutly normal that u have a diffrent feeling if ure practising a diffrent style of music for a period of time.there is only one thing to do,...getting new inspiration.Listen to thrash records or get ur inspiratiom from another musican.No matter how u do it.

i find that the best way to get your head into a style of music is to listen to a lot of it, then go find a tab for a song in the style you want to play and semi learn that

i odnt know if that will help all that much, but hey .. its something

I take a fucking long time to write songs. And if I get a block, I take a break and do something. And some of the best riffs come when your nowhere near a instrument. Try making a riff with your imagination then run to your guitar.

Why dont you just listen to some death or thrash metal CD's to get some ideas. It'll be a lot easier then asking people.

Yes, Eric, we all have this. I havent been able to write anything since when i wrote my 14 minute opus. The Opus was the best think i've written so far. Drummer and I are in the process of coming up with drums.

Eric, try this chord. It has a big place in all of my songs.:

And yeah, I've been listening the shit out of cemetary gates (which is what I'm going for) and playing it changing up a couple of chords to make it sound a little different, but still, nothing.
