a question about cabinets

i just got a peavy 5150 II head and I'm wondering about which cabinet to get., does it have to be a 5150 cab? or could it be any cab? what would give me a thicker death metal sound? i don't know if it really matters if you match up the head and cab...

I use a Peavey XXX cab with my 5150 head because it got a great deal on it. It also has pretty tight bass. Just goto sam ash or somthign and ask if you cna try their 5150 heads on different cabs.

Yeah no problem... I have a Marshall topp with a 4x12 Peavy.

But you got to have the right amount of Ohm! If not you will burn tour topp..

the 1960's cabs have celestion g12t 75's which are 75w a peice....
the 1960tv cabs have greenbacks... which are 25w a peice...
and the mode four cabs have vintage 30's, which are about 60w a peice.
the mode four cabs are alot like the mesa recto cabs, oversized and loaded with vintage 30's...
i personally think greenbacks, vintage 30s, and g12t75s(blackbacks) three of the best speakers ever made for just about anystyle.

so i don't know, but i think your buddies in that other forum are tone def if they think marshall cabs suck.

1960a's are probably considered the standard for 4x12 cabs.

orange cabs are probably my favorite all around cabs, whether you play jazz or metal they have such amazing tone that goes way beyond the speakers that are inside.

hey justin, if you didnt already know, peavey 5150's run sorta cold so if youre looking for a more warmer sound, leave the amp on for about 15 minutes and youll get a helluva better sound, or you can just get it bias modded. a marshall, peavey, or a mesa would be a great cab to get

mesa traditional recto cab if you got the money... then just trade 2 of the V30s for gt1275s... and you have a uberkabinet for alot less than getting the bogner name on it....

two totally different cabs... the mesa recto cab has vintage 30's an a larger construction, while the marshall 1960a has g12t 75's in a smaller construction..... both sound great... but they're also both way different...and there are better.

+1 for avatar...
my only beef with their cabs is they seem a bit.... shallow... like, a 1960a is a couple inches deeper.... i guess it'll give you a different sound... but it might be better or worse for you....
an avatar 4x12 with v30's will cost a couple hundred less than a mesa recto cab....
