Raising and lowering picups...
Hi, would like some thoughts about raising and lowering picups.
Has enyone done this? I think I have seen it been mentioned.
I have a Jackson KE3 kelly, and the strings are hangin fucking high over the two humbuckers compared to other guitars.
I wonder what effect I would get of having my humbuckers higher. I have read in a lot of Jackson KE3 Kelly reviews that the guitar was better afte putting the humbuckers up a litle bit.
..and, do anyone know a site who describe how to do this? I have an imagination of how to do it though...
I know my pic ups suck, but I am broke after I bought a new amp.

But what effect do I get by raising my picups? Do I get less mudy sound? Better sound, more hig end sound(now i dont have enything)

The best thing to do when playing metal is to have your pickups as close as possible to the strings, the sound that you get is a little clearer, but mainly makes the output louder, and you get more distortion out of your amp this way

If I may also add..
You can also do pinch/artificial harmonics a lot better to doing by having the bridge/pickups close to the strings...I had to do it with my Ibanez Ex yesterday, cause a few bands(such as Aborted, Exhumed, Internal Suffering, that I'm working on), use a lot of harmonics..

if ure pickups are quite low raise them to within a couple of millimetres , i think it is, but not to much cos, it'll sound like shit as the strings will magnatise to the pickups

I did this with my first guitar, a squier bullet, and it actually makes it sound better, depending on which one(s) you raise. Just dick around with it for a while till you get a better sound

Unless you know exactly what you are doing, then dont. If you raise your pickups too much, the sound will suffer greatly. Same with lowering them too much.
Trust me, dont do it unless you know exactly what you are doing.

Cleaner sound, higher output and more distortien is what I am looking for, so I might try it anyway. I have lowered my strings a litle bit too.
I will try to remember how mutch I turned the screwdriver around

Well my pickups were so high that the strings were touching it when I fretted the 12th fret and up. I lowered it and I actualy liked the tone better that way. But it still has a real muffled sound when I palm muted. I think its that my pickup is slanted to one side, its not flat. I'm just to lazy to fix that right now.

I tuned the nec-hum to be a litle higher, did not bother with the one in the bridge because I don't use it.'
I am happy with the result. I may try having them even a litle bit higher later, but now I am quite happy with my duncan designs..

You act as if once you adjust it you can NEVER adjust the pcikups again. Its not like the messing around with a truss rod here, its just some screws. If you dont like the tone keep moving the pickup until you do.

But the bridge pickups has higher output and more crunch. Maybe your toggle switch is confusing oyu, and you thing your selecting the neck when your not.

The bridge picup sounds to mutch punk for me...
I get more bass and power with my neck picup.
I will try to putt my neck picup higher and se if it gets more usable
I got to say that I have duncan dessign detonators... A cheap version of the SD invader who is the picups for pop-punk bands like blink182..
If i had a real SD JB-4, or a good Gibson humbucker in my bridge I would have used it more.
I use the bridge picup in my fender fat-strat a lot though...
