I have their Oceanic and Celestial albums and they are a pretty impressive band. Aaron Turner (Hydra Head records boss, I think) is the creative force behind them. Their style is sort of like prog metal, or something like that - kind of like Tool but they're slightly different. Needless to say, if you like Tool, Darko, I think you'll like Isis. Cult Of Luna have been compared to Isis but I saw CoL supporting DEP and they were nowhere near as good as Isis.

Fuck, I've listened to nothing (and I mean nothing) but Oceanic for the past two weeks. Awesome album.
Anyway, has anybody got Panopticon? If so how does it compare to Oceanic?

So I take it that Panopticon is markedly different from Oceanic?

Fuck all the newer releases. Ok they are good sorry, but it's all about the "Mosquito Control" EP. Especially the song Hive Destruction

I'm definatly digging them. Been listening to Panopticon all day - good call John!
I'm not sure how'd I would discribe them, though. They've got a combination of alot of the best elements of great bands. Almost a metal version of Explosions in the Sky (who'd I recommend to anyone that enjoys Isis), a blend of Godspeed (with the long drawn out jam sessions), and a hint of the later heavy psychedelic Tool spice but at the same time, nothing like the above mentioned at all.

Any band compared to Explosions in the Sky and GY!BE are automatically at least pretty good. Check out Set Fire to Flames, Dylan. I'll send you some if you IM me.
I have Panopticon. It got rave reviews last year, and was hailed as one of the best albums of the year. Still ranks #1 for me.

Panopticon is, IMO, better than Oceanic...its more chilled yet more tense. Wills Disolve is an incredible song.
But Celestial is their best. Fucking brilliant album as im sure your aware.

For those of you that enjoy a little noise try the Isis/Merzbow EP.

Ahh, I can't wait. Sounds pretty good, but I don't hear much Tool in it. Isis are an incredible band.

Woah, I wasn't expecting a new album to hit until late next year. This is very good news indeed, especially since Isis are definitely in my top 3 or 4 bands of all time.
