I would say go with the washburn, low end BC's are pure crap. it may end up costing you more to upgrade the guitar. But if its what you want to do, go for it, you'll probably be surprised with the results. I built a Kramer Randy Rhodes body up with a Wonderbar, Chandler neck, and EMG 85/81 combo and it sounds better than most guitars I've played. Also the Washburn is string thru, which will give you better sustain. and if you want a tremolo you can always add a flatmount system later (like a wonderbar), which is a better way in my opinion, b/c you'll have more wood left in the guitar, since you wont have to route out anything.

well usually I don't like guitars with crap on them, but that washburn looks neato!
anyways, you should find a place where you can play them, you're not gonna buy a guitar before trying it, right? I think the doc has a dime guitar, maybe he can tell you more.
I've played a similair BC Rich and didn't like it much, I hated the neck, so thats an instant game-over.
I'de prolly get the dime and fix it up with some sd's or bill lawrence pu's... also descent tuners and the regular crap
