Quake Fucking Live(Free-runs through browser)
Quake Live is basically a web browser ran port of Quake 3 Arena. Does it get any better? Yes it does. QL offers character statistics, friendslist, and dedicated servers free of lag. If you're a fan of ID soft you've gotta check this out. It's still in an open beta but I haven't noticed anything wrong.

Paddy, excuse my ignorance, what's browser-based gaming? Is that like playing tetris on websites or something? I remember Quake I, that's about it but how the fuck does that stuff play on a browser? |

I've no idea to be honest haha, but apparently that's what Quake Live is. It's some sort of streaming technology, but that's as much as I know about it. I think there are similar things happening with consoles, where you can play Xbox games on your TV with just a little internet-enabled streaming box thingy, circumventing the need for an actual console.
Someone else (possibly Requiem) posted a thread ages ago about multiplayer 2D fighter/shooter games that can be played through your browser; games from the SNES and similar consoles. This is probably just a more advanced version of that technology.

Nah. I don't think you can setup private servers yet. But there are unranked servers and smaller servers that a group of people could fill up fast and basically claim it.
