Fuck yea. I saw him a few months back. He is definately in my top 3.

Also:

Louis CK - His standup special on HBO titled "Shameless" might be the best recorded routine in the history of standup comedy. Seriously. Brilliant from start to finish.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMUvrOZCk7s
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMy6wVNdllI

Patton Oswalt - Both "Feelin kinda' Patton" and "Werewolves and Lollipops" are fantastic.

Mitch Hedberg, of course.

Ahh he's ok, a little over rated here in my book. You just like him probably cause your friends say its cool, and the blacks like it.

I saw Demetri Martin's standup special and some of it was pretty funny. A lot of his stuff reminds me of Mitch Hedgeberg. However, I watched his show on Comedy Central and it was fucking AWFUL.

Swardson and Demetri Martin are fucking great. Swardson as Terry on Reno 911 FTW.

Katt Williams = zzzzzz. His standup doesn't do it for me. I thought his movie was decent, though, but mostly for the road stuff and his supporting acts.

You mean the new series? Yeah I watched the first one last Wednesday and some of it was pretty funny, but some of it was pretty fucking boring too

Yea, Dimitri Martin's new show was a pretty lame attempt at humor.

I bet it'll be off the air before the season is over. At least one funny part was the "a moon rising over mountains OR a bald man hiding behind a table"

Yeah man. He has such an amazing reputation as a stand up comedian. I seriously afraid to watch his show because i'm afraid it's going to suck.

Yeah most of his drawings were pretty good. But his acting bits were bloody awful

It's funny how different comedians have different niches. For example, Bill Maher is a dreadful standup comedian and his sketches are a hit or miss but I'll be damned if he isn't one of the best interviewers. Real Time might be my favorite show on the air right now.

In the case of Demitri Martin, he is rather unoriginal. Although he does remind me of a wanna be Mitch Hedberg, the person he more blatantly ripped off was Zach Galifinakis (sp?)

Well I haven't seen a lot of Bill Maher, but I liked what he was doing alot. It was the show that ended with how the values of feminist women, have now become the values of America. Most of it weren't even jokes, just him wondering what the ffffuck is going on.

Their acts are similar in some ways. But Mitch Hedeberg is even worse if that's possible. I always thought his whole routine was bollocks.

Yes, I like him a lot.

... I like his shows a lot. There's a clip where he gets onto the stage, the crowd tries to boo him off, and he ends up verbally winning the whole thing.

Wow man. To me he literally is the king of one-liners. That's actually what his shows were. Loose continuation of one-liners.

His look on things was noticably very drug-influenced, but actually really accurate. Like with the fire-exit in the casino.

...What the hell? You really think so? According to me it's embarassingly unfunny and people only clap (and barely laugh) cause he's Henry Rollins.

And a comment summed my thoughts up quite nicely:
"Hmmm... wonder how happy Bach or Mozart would be with punk and Black Flag.

Sorry if I think the bitterness is a sign of immaturity and an inability to cope with his current relevance."

I wish I could like Brian Posehn more. He's not bad and has some great bits but I feel like he's missing some small but vital thing that would make him really awesome. Being a geeky metal head and incorporating that into your bits also helps.

I don't know if he's my favourite, but Chris Morris is a man I've been enjoying lately (oooooo matron!):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nvfQw8UCDE - the helium gag is satirising the broadcasting restrictions which forced Sinn Féin and certain loyalist politicians to have their voices dubbed by actors when they appeared on the news hahaha, I shit you not. Do you remember that shit, bunny? Fucking hilarious. One of the actors went on to play Butch Dingle in the British soap opera Emmerdale. True story.

Check out Brass Eye and The Day Today, all of which are available in YouTube. The paedophilia clips above are from a Brass Eye special in 2001. Here's the full episode:

I've never heard of him but I'm cracking up at some of these clips!

Have any of you guys in the UK heard or seen The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret? Its David Cross' new show and I think it'll be airing soon. It also has Bob Odenkirk, Will Arnett, and a lot of writers from the holy Arrested Development. When I saw Cross do stand-up a few months back he played maybe 10-15 minutes of the pilot and it was fucking great. I envy you for being able to see it.

I just ordered a book from Amazon; The Naked Jape, by Jimmy Carr. I quite like Jimmy Carr's standup shows, which surprised me given that I previously thought he was a talentless cunt. I also read Frankie Boyle's book a couple of months ago, which was consistently funny, despite reading like it had been produced by a recovering coma victim (that is, it wasn't very well-written, which probably made it funnier).

Speaking of books, I read Rik Mayall's book "Bigger Than Hitler, Better Than Christ" a few years ago and it was fucking hilarious. It's intentionally written badly, with spelling mistakes and bad punctuation throughout. The highlight of the book is the "letters" he wrote when he was at school; some proper comedy gold in there. If you're a fan of Rik you have to read it; if you're not familiar with him or don't like his work you might not get much from it, and you're also a cunt.

I recently discovered, and subsequently fell in love with, Doug Stanhope. I mean, where has this cunt been all my life?? He's like an even more jaded, cynical, hateful version of Bill Hicks, and he gives my own waning cynicism a new and much needed lease of life. You almost had me, establishment! FUCK YOU!

I first saw him on Charlie Brooker's Newswipe (if you don't know it, download it). Charlie Brooker isn't a standup, but he's a most welcome voice of reason among the frothing puddle of spunk-scum that is the mass media. See also Screenwipe and Gameswipe.

Haha holy shit... Let it all out, Paddy... I haven't read anything that graphic since my last creative writing class.

Not much of a comedian nerd or anything but you can never go wrong with Carlin. And, I hate to admit this, but Jim Gaffigan's hot pocket routine makes me giggle. And then I feel dirty afterwards.

I got plenty more where that came from!

I don't think this needs a punchline, so I'll move on.

I miss Carlin. Why do the good always die...well, not young, but...well, yeah, fair enough, he had a good innings.

Not many people have the talent and the innovation to change the landscape of comedy by simply taking part in it but Carlin is definitely up there alongside Pryor, Bruce, Hicks and Will Smith.

Hahaha I, too, have had a secret soft-spot for Jim Gaffigan ever since I saw that bit on YouTube. That stupid wispy voice he does had me in stitches the first time I heard it despite how much the snob in me wanted to resist it. There, I'm out of the closet. Now somebody fuck my mouth already!

Wait, Will Smith? I mean the Fresh Prince theme song is catchy and all but good god damn. Actually I'm just sick of seeing his big ol' dumb face in every post-apocalyptic sci fi movie that has had potential in the last 10 years.

And yeah I guess it is the voice. Shit, am I that much of a sucker?

You'll regret it later. If you're stoned enough you'll never know the difference though.

In all seriousness, the guy's a talentless, Scientology-peddling cunt and I'd gladly watch him melt in a giant fire whilst naked ginger midgets dance around it chanting "WIKI WIKI WHA!", shaking their little piggly cocks and watching as their spit sizzles on Will's crackling, all the while Will - in 30 second intervals - screams "aww HELL naw!", as is his custom. CLICK!

^^ I know two people who are dangerously close to getting oral sex. I could probably do you both together if you do an ass-to-ass and I just dump my tongue down the middle and wiggle it around. Ginger midgets may or may not be present.

*hovers mouse over MS Paint button* ...nah, I owe it to myself.

Doug Stanhope is probably the bleakest, sickest and most downright hateful comedian I've heard to date, and I fucking need more. Is there anyone worse (by which I of course mean better) than Doug in these respects? I quite enjoy the feeling of inconsolable despair he leaves me with.

Here are some of his appearances on Newswipe, which is where I first heard of him:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2o7y_b04YE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7wIomeEqCc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEcKMghDXSA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pv1AqwzRkeE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RycwYRcm3Lc

The guy's been going for nearly 20 years and I only hear about him in 2010. Fucking tragic.

Fuck me, 2010...what happened to all of those bullshit predications that were made in the 80s about what we'd be doing now? Where's my fucking robot butler? Where are my bastarding hover boots?? Where's the giant escalator to the Moon's red light district? CUNTS!

That's really weird man. I saw him on TV the other night for the first time ever and was going to come to this thread to post some footage of him haha. I love comedians that speak the truth with humour.

Haha. Yeah I haven't been so fantastic the past few months, but have been a little better lately. It's surprising how a sense of humour and music can keep one sane through shit times.

I was severely tempted to place this in "Epic man", but anyway. I'm thinking of building a small pantheon dedicated to these guys in my apartment.
