5 songs with the fastest drumming ever heard

Name a couple of songs you know with super-fast drumming (any genre)

Here some of mine:
1-Buried By Time and Dust- Mayhem
2-Aiwass Aeon- 1349
3-Forces of Satan Storms- Gorgoroth
4-Ebony Dressed for Sunset- Cradle of Filth (not a fan, but Nick Barker is amazing)

i'm not sure cause i don't listen to black metal but for DM, Unas Slayer of the Gods there is this one part where it is just the horn and the drummer, and he is keeping one pattern going really fast for a minute. Seems pretty fast to me. Oh and Malevolent creation has some fast drumming aswell

Morbid Angel - Opening of the Gates has double bass that's 300bpm. The most relentless drumming that comes to mind is that of John Longstreth on Informis.

Anything from Jon Engman (Brodequin/Foetopsy) is superhuman. It's speed and little else.

Songs:

1. Nile - Masturbating the War God
2. Krisiun - Sentinel of the Fallen Earth
3. Angelcorpse - Stormgods Unbound
4. Origin - Portal
5. Hate Eternal - Beyond Redemption

I'm pleased to see that my peers have already named Morbid Angel and Malevolent Creation. The only band I have to add off the top of my head is Misery Index. I never really got into them, but they're definitely good musicians.

300bpm is well beyond drumometer records<double bass or single stroke, hands>, basically noone has ever played at 300bpms consistantly, in a musical context, hands or feet with singles.

260-270 is about the fastest doublekick tempos<subdivision: 16th notes>, roddy and kollias are about the fastest metal drummers. the actual difference between 260 and 270 is not really noticable anyway.

there are other double kick speedsters out there and no doubt the folks you mention are fast mofos

1349 DID do a goo job speeding that shit up and with the stuff they play I guess it was probably necessary to not be bored playing it.

Fast as fuck? Well try Hate Eternal - Behold Judas, especially when that 260-280bpm+ blast kicks in in some interlude after the solo. Never heard a blastbeat faster than that, not even with Nile or Vital Remains(and VR had Tim Yeung, which supposedly won the fastest drummer award right?).

Oh yeh and DECREPIT BIRTH. How come noone has mentioned them yet?

Pretty much any 1349 song is super fucking fast, and I think they did a better job on drums at Buried By Time and Dust than Mayhem. The reason I put Mayhem on my list for that one was because they did the original, which is still fucking amazing (as far as speed).

ive been around for a while and all these thread end up in a 'who can name the most bands' extravaganza.

comparable to 'who is the best drummer, singer, guitarist' or 'best death metal band' etc.

stop being a wiseguy and name fast drummers, bitch

Origin-triggers=fake. I don't think drummers that use triggers should be named in fastest drumming cause they are lazy and have to use triggers.

Yeah people who claim triggering is cheating don't know jack shit. It would be the equivalent of using compression + overdrive with a guitar amplifier, or like EMG's, it makes every note you play come out at the same volume with a consistent sound, not make you a faster player. Everybody and their grandnanny in extreme metal uses them both live and on record, and I'd like to see people who bitch about triggered drums play anything even half as decent WITH triggers.

Now if you bitch about the "drums sounding too triggered", because they used bad sampling in the studio, that's a different story. But that's not the player's fault.

What if he's limited as to what samples he can use in a studio? Or simply doesn't know how to program a drum trigger thingy, and has to have a studio engineer do it for him? Triggering drums to get a realistic sound is not such an easy procedure.

Are you telling me that Nick Barker or Hellhammer doesn't overuse triggers?
Give me a break Hellhammer sounds like a fucking typewritter. Who doesn't use triggers? A lot of people I don't think Pete Sandonoval uses them, Kai Hatio doesn't use them, I am not sure about Flo but I know The Berzerker does. I think you can program a tigger to as how many beats to simulate. I still stand by my statement that it's for lazy drummers.

Pete Sandoval uses them. In fact, many people don't like Heretic because they feel the drums are overtriggered. Personally, I love the sound. I'm listening to "Drum Check" as I type. Okay... now can I just hear your kick drum, please? Fucking classic.

But that's not the player's fault.

basically, triggers invalidate dynamic control with the feet. it takes alot of work to play each bass hit evenly, its also difficult to play bass rolls with accents and control the volume interplay between both feet, you know, the stuff that easily demonstratable with hands.

so no, i wouldnt consider it cheating, whatever the fuck "cheating" is but its definitely retarded and counter intuitive to why DRUMS, essentially acoustic instruments, are design the way they are.

so when you see a drummer using triggers, take note on the fact that the bassdrum itself is a prop, there is no justifyable reason why its there because the sound it emits is wholely irrelevent to what you hear<from a PA> unless you are right in front of the damn thing.

as far as triggers and speed is concerned, most reputed fast drummers lack the control to make each hit sound even, so if they didnt have it, what they're playing would sound like shit, i mean really uneven, they also lack the fortitude to make that kick sound loud enough to match the volume of thier hands, something that is humanly possible, but takes additional effort.

so yeah, again, its not cheating. hell, i dont even know what the fuck "cheating" is, but it definitely sucks and i could give a shit if its a institutional standard......its totally unnecessary, there are drummers who do the same stuff without sampled sounds for compensation of the lack of technique.

Oh yeah, I don't deny his talent. I also respect some mainstream emo drummers for the sole reason that they play so friggin tight... then again, you really need to be a technically precise musician to make it anywhere on radio or tv. But of course, I respect all of extreme metal musicians' technical proficiency 1000 times more. But another thing that I really respect and am consistently drawn to is the type of shit that Mike Mangini pulls off. If you're unfamiliar, just youtube it and watch away.

Lol at this ambiguous thread.

In the studio while recording Opening of the Gates, Trey wanted the bassroll to be faster, Pete was like wtf, no human could possibly do it so they sped it up just a tad. I have another video of said song and he's playing it almost 100% right on tempo. It's ridiculously hard.

Heretic didn't sound triggered at all to me. Gateways did sound totally fucking triggered, they were using an electronic drumset after all.

News flash: every extreme metal drummer uses triggers. Guess you might as well stop listening to metal because they're all "cheating" right? Pfft. I'd like to see any drummer play some fast brutal stuff easily WITH triggers. Why don't you turn your gain knob on your amp to zero then? Just play hard enough and you'll notes will come out, gain is for cheater pussies.

Saying triggering for lazy drummers is the epitome of bullshit.

I'm quite disappointed in how this thread turned out, as I had posted "name some songs with really fast drumming." Not who you think the fasted drummer is or who you think the fastest band is and shit, but that's all anyone really posted anyways. In no way was it ambiguous.

too lazy to read through the entire thread, but i would suggest Panzerchrist "lies" and also anything by Origin and (consequently, same drummer) Dim Mak. also i think some people already mentioned Decapitated and the new drummer from Nile.

..and check out Agoraphobic Nosebleed.. that guy is faaasst!! hah

by the way, AGIEL.. the album is "Dark Pantheons Again Will Reign"
here is a sample: deeds rendered upon the flesh

i would also mention Aeon, but their lyrics are like childish glen benton type shit, so don't waste your time.. it ruins the insane drumming.

Does Eric Park use triggers? Does Kevin Talley? Does Kai Hahto?I don't think they do. But seriosly those are some pretty technical and fast drummers. And if they can go that fast with just their man power then why can't other drummers?

Don't know who Kai or Eric are, but Kevin Talley DEFINITELY triggers his drums. If a double bassdrum roll on CD has every note sounding the same, you can bet you're ass it's triggered. They can't make their playing untriggered sound exactly like on the album, it's impossible to make every beat come out with the same volume and sound. Give it up man, all extreme metal drummers you can think of trigger drums, it's not cheating for fucks sake. It doesn't make them faster drummers, it makes every note come out at the same volume.

I didn't think Kevin did. Kai is from Rotten Sound/Wintersun and Eric Park is from Devourment. Maybe I am mistaken of what a trigger is. See I read that triggers are like pads that you hit and it artificialy makes the sound (programed as many times as wanted) of the drum. That's what I thought a trigger was. But if it's just an amplifier than forget everything I said LOL

I forget the name of the song(s) but if you listen to Asmegin's album, Hin Vordende Sod & So, all the way through you will be amazed by the speed of the double bass pedal.

it is possible, its just a matter of projecting loud bassnotes with full control in the context of fast music. takes more effort and focus

most people want a shortcut because its incredibly hard enough just to do the stuff at high tempos.

i suggest everyone get a metronome and make it click 16th notes at 250 bpm, then change it to 260, then 270.

the difference is so small that actual disscussion on the matter is beyond me, its like comparing track and field records, the 40 yard dash stats of football players.

id rather hear a good drummer play at 240 bpms than a boring/predictable/robot one at 300 bpms.

Mirrorthrone and one of Vlad's other projects Unholy Matrimony best utilise drum machines for speed. Agoraphobic nosebleed though... dont use it ........as well

as for real drummers
Death Reveals - the Berzerker - the snare rolls are insane - you know the ones around 1:25ish, then you realise he's doing it one handed and it's even more insane

Churning the Maelstrom - Nile, Tony rips the drum machine apart for this, crazy blasts and double bass.

Comforting Prejudice - Beneath The Massacre - good lord. all that needs to be said

Procession of Aeons - Abigail Williams - good use of a gravity blast (i think it's a gravity blast, i know bugger all about drumming so i could very well be wrong)

Enraptured By Evil - Akercocke - gotta love ol Dave.....
